Im assuming its a C64, these notebooks have overheating issues.

1. make sure the fan has room to breathe, and is clean of dust.
2 Dell Inspiron/Latitude/Precisiion fan control utility will help cool your processor ... http://www.diefer.de/i8kfan/index.html
