Hello, I have a Toyota Corolla Runx 2004 and sometimes the orange engine light comes on when I'm driving. When I turn the car off then back on it's gone, but after driving for a while, it comes back on. What does this mean?

Hi,
When the check engine light comes on this can be caused by a number of things.
Your car has an onboard chip (ECU) that records the fault codes generated by various sensors on the engine. When a fault is detected by one of these sensors it sets off the check engine light.
The only way to determine the cause of this light is to have the cars ECU (engine control unit) scanned with diagnostic software.
Luckily Autozone will do this for free. The error codes stored in the ECU will be picked up by the scan and will indicate where the fault lies and point towards the cause of the orange light.
Please do leave a vote for the solution. Thanks.

Make sure that is not a light from the shift button options on the transmission check your owners manual about how to use the transmission. I would go to autozone and read the codes and find if they are trans codes that year of car is famous for the computer that shifts the transmission failing there is a recall that toyota has to replace that for free up to 100k after 100k your on your own

Hi Al,
The check engine light is to show you that the electronic management system has picked up a fault. It may not be major or on the other hand it may be indicating something serious. Which ever it is,it's a good idea to take the vehicle into a shop and have a diagnosis run on the vehicle. Its better than being stranded somewhere a month or so down the line.
