Under an ATT/Cingular phone you can simply go to Settings>Phone Status>Other Information, where it should show two items: Flex Version & S/W Version. Two items that will let you know what firmware your phone is using to operate its components as well as the software side. Should be easy to find on most branded or global firmwared phones.
