Briggs 98902 carburettor spring diagram. Need pic showing where springs hook onto throttle linkages, someone has mucked around with them. Unsure how it is meant to work. Moving throttle cable has no effect on butterfly, other than amount the bigger spring is stretched looks to affect its governing properties. There doesnt seem to be any direct control of the butterfly.

The butterfly is indirectly control by throttle cable via spring tension on the governor spring. This is from the service manual.

How do you assemble the two springs on a sprint 375 briggs and stratton ?

The ends of both springs hook at the loop of the metal linkage connecting the governor vane and throttle shaft. The other end of the small spring hooks onto a small upright plate approximately 1 inch towards to the front of hooked end of the spring. The longer spring hooks onto a large hole in the throttle plate.
A problem that does occur is the plate becomes bent when the mower us pushed under shrubs. This drops the speed of the mower to a low idle. If this is the case then with a pair of pliers, gently twist that metal plate to obtain a RPM setting of 3,100. Don't be tempted to increase the revs to much or the conrod will break and punch a hole through the engine block.

How to hook up governor spring and throttle linkage on a briggs and stratton 8hp

From the governor 'vane', on end with a small hole in it is for one end of the spring........the other end of the spring goes to the throttle arm on the carb. YOU MUST HAVE THE CORRECT SPRING WITH THE PROPER LENGTH AND TENSION!!!

I need the linkage diagram for a 20 hp briggs and statton model 407777-0167

Besides the service manual you can view parts diagrams at a dealer like www.arcolawn.com. You can purchase the service manual at a dealer and it will show you how to hook it up.
The throttle linkage hooks up to the throttle shaft closest to the engine. the governor spring attaches the governor arm to the throttle linkage.
The choke cable attaches to the shaft farthest from the engine. I hope this helps.
PS your engine has two factory service bulletins on it.

Motor runs wide open when set @ slow speed

It could be that the governor spring has become disconnected or has broken on an end where it hooks onto the throttle linkage. If the spring is OK & throttle linkage is not binding it could mean the governor drive inside the engine has failed preventing the governor from operating correctly. You may need to take the engine to a mechanic to fix the problem.
