Question about Canon imageCLASS MF6530 Monochrome Laser Copier/Printer
Theengel is right, but fortunately there is a simpler solution, see below (I posted it 20 times I think because this problem is very common).
Reason : the shutter of the laser is not opened by the cartridge. (I had same problem, and solved it)
Open the door and remove the toner. look inside and you will see in the upper part a rectangular window in the metal bar. This window is shut by a metal plate behind when the door is open. Try to raise it with a knife. This is the problem. Now, this shutter is here only for legal reasons (security to prevent the laser beam going out when door open, but when the door is opened the power is shut so...). Cut a piece of plastic just the width of the opening, fold it at angle in the form or an L, then place it on the left side of the opening, so that the shutter can no longer go down. A piece of scotch to fix it in place and you are done.
Now, if it works and you are grateful, I am interested in empty cartridges. If you have some tell me. Thanks.

When you close the door to the printer, there's something that opens the flap to the laser unit. This makes it so the laser can shine down on the drum. The flap isn't openeing when you close the door. You'll have to look at the flap, and then follow all the mechanisms that eventually lead to the door. There's a break in it somewhere.
