Question about Sony CDX-M8800 CD Player

The Unit is getting Power, but the Head Unit, which flips forward is not. I think that the connection between the two needs to be cleaned, so does anyone know how to disconnect the head unit from the base unit?

Re: The Unit is getting Power, but the Head Unit, which...

There are two screws on left and right of display on the arms that it flips . take them out and you can slip it off now the ribbon is probably bad so dont be suprised if it tears when you try to remove it . they are such a tight fit i doubt if the connection is dirty they break from the constant bending ..

Dual dvd car stereo no sound

Check the fuses. There's one in your car's fuse panel (usually in the footwell be the hinges of the car door) & one on the back of the head unit. While you have the head unit out checking the fuse, ensure that the power wire is still connected securely and the ground wire has a firm, clean connection to the sub dash (clean metal, no paint). If this doesn't solve the problem, the unit may well have gone belly up. You will need a new one if that's the case. If you purchase a new one, stay away from Dual. It's garbage. I know they're super affordable, but you get what you pay for with that kind of stuff. Pioneer makes really good units and there priced reasonably too. Just a suggestion... Good luck!

Head unit will not power up it was working fine and just stopped. Eject button still works?

If its a flip down, or a detatchable face, you can always try cleaning the terminals on the back of the face. If these are dirty, they can causebad connections.

I turn the key on and the face will flip out but with out any thing on the screen

There could be a possible failure of the link membrane connection that goes from the head unit to the panel. You will need to open the head unti and look at the hinges from where the flexible cord move along.Look carefully for a sharp cut that will be visible only at the bendings. If you ahve detected this remove from the panel and replace with the similar one. However if this seems alright then you will have to check the power to the screen from the main PCB. Use a voltage check onthe main power , the sub power and trace it slowly to the display section. If the Cd palys but except for display everything seems alright, then you will also have to open up the display drives for a voltage/frequency check . Look for any failure of the protector zener mounted alongside the drive. I hope you could get some idea . Good Day

Headunit power problems

Hello dobbyville11,
It might be a few things but here is what i would check 1st, pull out the head unit make sure all the wires are pushed in all the way. The second thing i would suggest is checking the connection to the battery and ensure that the ternimals are clean and a good connection is available.
If there is something else it might be that you hold down a button while it starts, I know of some headunits that need this.
Please post what you do and how you did it. I look forward to your post.

Emergency brake bypass

DVD head units have one extra wire in their wiring harnesses, compared to a standard CD head unit. On mine, it's a peach-colored wire, and is the activation wire for the DVD feature. During the installation, the instructions call for this wire to be tapped into the emergency brake indicator light wire. The reason is this:

The e-brake indicator light is what is called a "ground complete" circuit. That means that the bulb always has power applied, but when you pull the brake, that puts a ground to the wire and completes the circuit, allowing it to illuminate. The head unit sees this ground, and activates the DVD player.

In my Jensen unit, I simply ran this wire to a ground (I used a screw near the fuse box), and I put a switch on the wire, so I could break the ground contact at will. Jensen calls for a procedure to activate DVD playback. In their instructions, they tell you to select DVD from the option menu, and when the "lawyer screen" comes up (the one warning you to park before you watch a movie), you release the e-brake for 3-5 seconds, and then reapply it. To simulate that with the switch I used, I leave the switch closed (activated), and select DVD. Then I flip the switch "off" for 3-5 seconds, and flip it back "on". This tricks the head unit into thinking I put the e-brake off for a few seconds and then put it back on, and the movie will start. Then I can drive away.

Basically, ground the wire that is used for DVD activation, and put a switch inline on it. Then you can break and reapply the ground in whatever manner is required by the manufacturer of your head unit. If there is no off/on sequence with yours, as there is with mine, simply ground the wire to a screw inside the dashboard and you're done.

Remote works, but not the reciever

This one is tough one. It soundslike you have lost the connection between the flip face and the main head unit. I suggest you pull the head unit and get it to a bench for closer investigation. Look for and tears in the connecting wire harness between the Flip control, and the main Unit.

Kenwood kdc-322 faceplate problem?

I found my Kenwood KDC322 faceplate doing the same thing(cutting out) I cleaned the contact points on this 'ribbon' behind the faceplate by rubbing the discoloration off with a pencil eraser. The lights have not cut out again.
