Harmon Kardon AVR 230 produces no sound and no monitor out.

I've had this stereo since 2004 in perfect working condition. I purchased another stereo and put the AVR 230 in storage for a few months till I was ready to hook it up in another room. The lights are on but there is no sound, the monitor out has no signal. I've only hooked up one speaker thus far but the combination of no sound and no signal tells me somethings wrong...help me if you can!

You do not have +17v and -17v on transformer board the top two fusible resistors are blown and the cap between them needs to be replaced as this cap probably shorted and caused resistors to blow. easy fix

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved to Harmon Kardon AVR category.

They all need remotes. You just buy a replacement.

I ve been asked to find out why a avr 30 doesnt put out any sound no matter what jacks are used...... im a property manager not a service tech go figure

Bad fuse? power supply problem, blown output transistor. It is an old discontinued model, so any stereo repair shop might be able to fix it.

Harman kardon avr 1500

Try using the RCA outputs once and see if that works..One other thing don't use the phono input on the receiver as it could damage the amplifier

Just bought a Sharp LED TV and there is a slight delay between hearing sound and seeing lips move. Have cable box hooked up to tv by HDMI and have cable box hooked to AVR (Harmon Kardon AVR125) by optical...

Hi if there is an optical out on the television i would use that direct to your Harmon Kardon AVR 125, the sound would be in sync with picture, as the source is the same.

I have sound when I play the dvd or the cd player

Sounds like the setup info got scrambled in the receiver. Re-program the TV input...from optical or coax or whatever way it is going into the receiver.

Harmon kardon 745 displays "unlock" no sound for tv or movies

I also had this UNLOCK message on my Harman Cardon AVR 130.
The reason for this error was - in a hurry I've plugged the optical input into optical OUT! Double check that your connections in the back are correct and hopefully it fixes your problem.

Cheers,

Harmon Kardon and Infinity Modulus

I got the answer for No-1.
The balance was turned on the Right Channel. That is why Left Channel was not working during the Channel test.
For Channel test the Balance should be in the middle so that both Right and Left Would be heard.

I am working on my Subwoofer Isuue.

I opened the Back Panel and Yet I could ot figure out any issues.

I will open the front panel and see if any connection is loose.

Was using the harmon kardon avr 225 receiver and the front panel went out. .... screen display of the channel number, volume, or menu item does not work. ...

Try hooking up a yellow video wire from the back of the AVR 225 Monitor out. Should be at the end of the 7 or 8 yellow video ports on the back of the stereo. Next plug the other end into a yellow video in on a t.v. Get your remote, (Harmon/Kardon) and make sure the t.v. is on the correct video input and hit the OSD(on screen display) button on your harmon remote. There should be a setting in there that says VFD under ADVANCED menu option that allows for turning the front of your stereo lights on and off and dimming them half way also. OFF/HALF/FULL are the 3 options I believe.

If this doesnt solve it your display may have crapped out on you.
