I have an older Hoover SteamVac Supreme #F5815 and I'm having trouble figuring out how to clean the part in the front that the dirty water goes thru before it gets to the tank. How do I clean it?

Can't switch cleaning mode from tool to floor

there's a mechanism inside the steamvac that should switch the mode automatically when you press the handle release and pull the handle down for the vacuum mode... it's automatic! it took so long to figure out because I kept looking for the switch when it was upright and didn't look as I was using it.

No suction for upholstery hose try priming your hose

Before using tool
It may be necessary to remove air from
the system (“prime the pump”) so the
clean solution will flow to the tool. Follow
these steps:
1. Attach tool to hose and turn the carpet
cleaner ON.
2. Put the tool on a hard surface or
against your hand to block off the suction.
3. Wait a few seconds (can take up to
15 seconds). Then squeeze the trigger
and begin cleaning.
Follow the instructions on pages 14 and
15 for the appropriate cleaning task.

Spin brush removal

Brush Disassembly Hoover STEAM VAC Owners Manual F9514-900 (F9514900) does not
explain how to take the brush assembly apart. The instructions are as

Figure 1 shows the key

features. There are two
clear plastic outer pieces

which are held onto the

white inner piece with 3

tabs each. The clear

plastic tabs go underneath

the corresponding white

extended tabs on the white

plastic inner piece.

Figure 2 shows where the

screwdriver is inserted

(flat blade) and gently

pushed down while pulling

the clear plastic outer
piece away from the inner

white piece.

Figure 3 shows assembled

unit. Note extended brush

axle goes in center, which

fits into the female drive

unit on the shampooer.
I used the hose nozzle out

on the lawn to direct high

velocity water stream

trying to get the hair out

of the brushes. Hair and

fuzz remarkably entrained

in brushes, but I got 90% of it out.

Stair and upholstery attachment

After tearing things down and inspecting the handle switch, etc., I found that my problem was detergent. It sets idle for a while or doesn't get used very much and the detergent dries and actually clogs the inside of the hose. I cleared it by fully extending the hose, pressing the button and allowing the clog to clear itself. The built in heater helped out a lot once the flow started again. I used a can of compressed air to provide a little blow back to get things moving but not too much or the pump would be damaged. Remove the tool and hold the nozzle into an empty cup while depressing the trigger. A warm vinegar solution clears things out nicely. It's kinda hard for this piece go defective but easy to overlook when wrapping up and storing the unit. Remember, clean water rinse with 1/4 cup white vinegar. There, I fixed it and wasn't even broke!

I can't get solution to come through my hose attachement to clean furniture

I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover F5881-900 Vacuum. It sound to me that you may have a defective pump or switch, the sprayer or solution should not spray out unless you use the trigger. Question? How old is the machine – if it is less than one year this would be covered under the Hoover factory warranty and if it is more than one year than you may want to check the trouble shooting part of the owner’s manual or to call the Hoover tech support line @ the factory. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. That part to install in tank, is at the end of your hose. Take the lide off of the dirty water tank, on the front of the tank, there is a block that will slide out, then you can insert that part in its place. You have to have suction to make the brushes spin, so you just need to put the block on the end of the hose in the slot on the front of the tank. When down however, put that block you took out back, or your cleaner won't work right.

Converting the machine to use the uphostery brush

Remove the duct (#3)in front of the water tank. Your hose on one end will have a duct on it, insert it in the place of the duct that you took out. Don't forget to put that duct in when you are done with the hose.
