Out of focus shot on Auto setting

Canon PowerShot SD 1000=== setting "Auto"

I can take clear a picture if I am within 1-2 feet from the target. However, if I am further than that, the picture comes out blurry. Why is this?

Do you have it inn "macro" mode? See the little flower/mountain button on the back of your camera. Press it once until the mountain icon shows on the screen. This is for normal "distant" photos. Or press it once more until the little flower icon reappears. This is for extreme close-ups, like taking pictures of flowers. This sounds like what you probably had it in.

But really, your little camera can do so much more. Recommend that you take a look at this. It's an 8 mb download, but you should read it:

I have a canon powershot sx20..looking through the view finder looks blurry, but after takingt the picture and looking on the screen the picture does NOT look blurry...It's only blurry when looking through...

Your camera is equipped with a optical diopter that will allow you to adjust the optics in the viewfinder to your eye. meaning bringing everything into focus as it should. The way I use this (set it) is to let the camera auto focus on a subject and then turn the diopter until I see the subject clearly.
It really helps if the subject is about 12 feet away (get it real sharp) and the camera is mounted on a tripod. Once set I put a little dot of paper white out on the diopter adjustment knob so if it gets turned I know and can quickly return it to the correct spot. I'm including a diagram where this adjustment knob is on your camera, have fun.

Our Canon Powershot SD 780 is having a focus problem.

This might be a problem with the lens, I'm not exactly sure but I will get you in the right direction. There's a great site that just specializes in these Canon Powershot problems and they're terrific to say the least. If you go to camerasandparts.com you'll see your exact problem there for the canon powershot sd780is model. That should get you in the right direction to fix this problem. Canon Powershot SX10 IS auto focus unreliable

I don't this its an error. I have used this Canon SX10 IS Camera for nearly a year now I haven't had this kind of problem.

Usually auto focus take few seconds to focus on object depending on distance and lighting. That might be the problem ?

I have a Canon Powershot SX100IS.It is the worst

If this is occurring in "Auto" as you say, then the particular camera that you have is defective. If a recent purchase, return it for exchange or refund. If that's not possible, call 1-800-OK-CANON for warranty repair. The SX100 IS actually is a VERY nice camera, and this is very uncommon for a Canon camera. Unfortunately, it sounds like you somehow got one that slipped through the cracks.

Blurry action pictures!

This Powershot A590 camera has a Kids and Pets mode that may help. If that doesn't work, you need to set your camera to Shutter Priority (TV) mode on the dial. Then you use the arrows to increase or decrease the shutter speed setting. Depending on the sport/action, your shutter may need to be 1/400 up to 1/1000 or higher.

You may find you don't have enough light to get a fast shutter speed at the standard ISO, so you may also need to increase the ISO. Only increase it as much as needed to get your shots, and don't forget to return it to a lower ISO when you are done. You set the ISO from the Func/Set button menu.

You will have a relatively shallow area of focus (called depth of field) unless you have a LOT of light and are using a relatively slower shutter (e.g. 1/400 vs 1/1000). So be sure to keep the center of the focus on the player you are shooting.

Check your user manual for instructions on how to change to the AV mode and how to set the ISO. If you don't have your user manual, you can download it here, from Canon.

Finally, this type of camera tends to have a lot of "shutter lag" between when you press the shutter and when it takes the photo. You need to plan ahead and press the shutter in advance of the "peak action" when you want to capture the photo.

What are the basic settings I should have the powershot sd 1000 on? My pictures are blurry and the color is not very good.

If you have it on auto the you have no settings. If you have it on manual then you can change the white balance to correct for the colors, also try increasing the ISO, that will give you a quicker shutter and help cut down on bury shots

Powershot S1 Digital Camera: Flash won't fire

Make sure the camera is not in Document mode . Document takes a picture with added contrast so text stands out. Make sure the camera is not set to Infinity focus . When you select Infinity Focus, the camera automatically turns off the flash and auto focus so you get sharp, clear pictures. Make sure the camera is set to Fill, Auto, or Red Eye flash. See your camera manual for details about setting the flash.

Auto-focus problem

I shoot with a 10D and at first I thought I might have a problem. Now I think I just wasn't using it correctly. I read a lot of posts on dpreview about how to use the autofocus correctly and that has helped me a lot.
