On the processor itself, you should see a marking to say what kind it is (AMD K8 X2 4800, Intel Pentium 4, etc) and a longer number. Many times, when you enter that number into google, it will tell you what type of processor it is, what the system bus is and the type of ram supported. EX: system bus 400 MHz means that it will most likely use DDR RAM. System bus of 800 will mean DDR2 RAM and so on.

Hi,

It will be in the manual; if you have lost it, and know the model of the laptop, the the company's website would have the type of memory:
These two sites could help you:

Thanks.

No power ON of mother board

Get a power supply tester $10 ebay and test the PSU. led lights show if it is ok. often the PSU will run and appear to be ok. But will have below voltage when load comes on.

Toshiba A200 1Ai memory slot not working

new board, the actual ram slot is toast, you can get a replacement board from Toshiba themselves but at a retarded price, at this point cheapest thing to do would be to just put in one 2 gig stick in the working slot so at least you have 2 gigs and forget about the other one (replacement mother-board for your machine is roughly 200 bucks) i checked it at work (future-shop)

Few questions about RAM memory?

Solution:

i)  LOW DENSITY modules have 100% compatiility with ALL systems and ALL chipsets.
HIGH DENSITY modules only have 10% compatibility

here compatablity means LOW DENSITY RAM are accepted by all system(100%)  or any make           system.. HIGH DENSITY RAM are accepted by 10% by only some system or computers...

ii) in order to check system performance or amount of Computer RAM usage press the ctrl+alt+del
simultaneously a new window(window task manager) will appear showing:

CPU usage: showing the amount of CPU or processor utilized at that particular time.
PF usage: showing the amount of RAM memory utilized at that particular time.
Physical Memory: showing Total RAM Memory, Available Ram memory....

iii) baiscally they are two types of RAM they are:

DDR1:which is older one supported by older system  or older mother boards which is costlier
DDR2: which is latest one supported by all new system or new mother boards which is less                         costlier

DDR: double data rated ram......which will send data at a double rate compared to SD RAM

iii) here color doesnt matter, these slots either support DDR1 or DDR2 but not both at a time

DDR1 has 184 pins or gold plated pinssss... on the edge of the RAM
    DDR2 has 240 pins

so difference doesnot allow DDR2 to placed in DDR1 motherboards or vice versa...

iv) it does have anything to do with no of chips on the RAM but they only differ whether it is DDR1 OR DDR 2(DDR2 are much faster than DDR1)

NOTE: whatever may the the RAM, each RAM has FSB(called Frequency...) which determines the frequency of rate at which data is tranferred from RAM to processor(CPU)  usually in MHZ such as FSB 300, 400, 200 , 333...................

more the FSB the faster data is transferred to the processor(CPU)

dont worry even RAM with less FSB's work well with the processor....having 1 GB RAM or 2 GB RAM is engouh, it only matters with the speed of CPU ... but not RAM......

Ram install problem

with RAM there can be a few problems
1) the frequency of ram which *********** board supports might be less than the freq at which the ram you are puttin works, hence in this case RAM wont work on this mother board and ull have to get the RAM replaced
2) some motherboards do not support a 2 x 1 GB RAM where as they might support a 1 X 2 RAM (if you do have 2 mem slots for ram)
and then there is the most trivial problem of the slot not being clean or arm not being put properly, i can think of ne other reason for the ram not working properly..

cheers

Pentium 4 comptability with SD Ram

If you know what mother board you have you could check what RAM it can use.

All RAM is installed in the same way, but different types of RAM are keyed differently. That basically means that one type of RAM (for example SD RAM) will simply not fit into another type of RAM slot (for example a DDR RAM slot).

To install ram on a PC
Please note - do NOT touch the connector side of the RAM, handle it only by holding the side or top edge
1. check that you have the right type of RAM. do this by lining up the RAM above the RAM slot and making sure that the RAM is the same length as the RAM slot AND ALSO that the RAM's key (the little hole or notch in the RAM) lines up with the key in the RAM slot. Note there might be more than one key
2. open both clips of the RAM slot by pushing them down and out from the center of the RAM slot
3. gently insert the RAM into the RAM slot
4. check again that the RAM and the RAM slot's key's line up, if they do, firmly press down on the RAM on both corners until both clips automatically click shut on the RAM

That's it! :-)
