Wii allows all games to be set up to play and then when start playing there is a disc unable to read error. Wii sits vertically, discs are clean, tried compressed air and tried unplugging it...still...

Sounds like the laser head in the wii is failing. You will need to either replace the entire drive (Sometime a bit easier) or just the laser head (Cheaper option). This will require you to completly disasemble you Wii.

1998 chevrolet malibu radio error

A cd player uses an optical laser to read the information on the media. The radio itself is mostly a separate part of the audio system, though it is contained in the head unit. The most common cause of an "error" signal in a head unit is due to a dirty optical lens. I would try a soft brushed disc cleaner before speaking to the dealer. You can get these at most stores. If that doesn't work the most likely culprit would be a mechanical failure of the carriage that runs the laser or the laser itself.

Unable to read the disc.

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

Unable to read disc

Try purchasing a disc head cleaner (http://www.amazon.com/Scotch-Cleaner-Players-CD-ROM-DVD-ROM/dp/B00006HZ2Z)
Do you have the same issue with every disc or just one?

My wii console wont read any disks

Please try to put in an ordinary audio CD track and see if this is detected. If yes the optical is working, if not there is no laser scanning and the possibility of the head being faulty is high.
Now certain cleaner disks are not read and so will not be tracked. the best is for cleaning manually the laser head eye with a cotton bud very softly and without any pressing of the lens eye.
If there is still no result then watch the CD if it spins or tries to spin. If the head unit moves up or down to focus or in and out of the drive, if so the board seems to work correctly and the possibility of the optical head being the suspected fault is closer.
But if any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of the processor board

Error cannot read the disc, I have turned the wii on and off and it has still not cleared the problem

Please try and clean the optical head for a start.
If there is still the message of an error saying that data cannot be read or a no disc indication, then the fault can be either the failure off the optical headd or the processing control board.
But if you notice that the head is trying to read or move the optics but is unable, then the possibility of the optical head is for sure.
Confirm cost , estimate and decide. Tell me if this info is helpful

Unable to read disc

If (1) this error only occurs with the Wii Fit game and (2) you have no scratches or marks on the game disc and (3) you have cleaned your Wii with a lens cleaner product recently; then, most likely the Wii Fit game disc is bad. It's not your Wii.

here's the problem: the wii fit game is 4.7gb. Most wii games are 4.4gb. Burning a Wii game at 2x speed is fine if its 4.4gb.

For Wii games that are 4.7gb (full size of a DVD disc) the games must be burned at 1x speed or errors will occur.

It is likely that Nintendo burned these at 2x speed and therefore your wii is getting an error due to them incorrectly burning the disc.
