The majority of all monitors and computer operating systems today rely off of a compatible, default, or PnP (plug-n-play) monitor drivers that are already included with the operating system. In some very rare cases, if your monitor needs drivers for a commonly used operating system such as Microsoft Windows 98, the drivers would have been included with the monitor or can be downloaded from the monitor manufacturer.

Using the standard / default monitor or using a similar monitors listed in the monitors listing will allow the monitor to work with no issues. Allowing Windows to automatically detect the monitor will allow the monitor to be installed.

Windows 9x / Windows ME / Windows 2000 / Windows XP Users: If the computer you are placing the monitor onto has previously had a monitor, it is likely you may have to enter Device Manager and remove the previous monitor listing for the monitor to work. Time Required: Testing a monitor could take from a few minutes to much longer depending on the cause of the problem Here's How:

Here is what you need to do to know if your monitor is defective. Plug the power cord of the monitor. Turn on the monitor. If the monitor display image for a second and then black out then the monitor is OK. If not you will need to replace it.
If the monitor is OK.. look for other possible problem. Next to it aside from checking the cable (connecting your video card to the monitor) the one to check is the video card.. the signal from the cpu will pass through the video card to your monitor. If no reaction to the monitor then its the video card.

In addition, most programs will display windows on the primary monitor when you initially open them. You can select different screen resolutions and different color quality settings for each monitor. Multiple monitors can be connected to individual video adapters or to a single video adapter that supports multiple outputs. To configure the arrangement of multiple monitors:

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Appearance and Themes, and then click Display.
3. On the Settings tab, click Identify to display a large number on each of your monitors. This shows which monitor corresponds with each icon.
4. Click the monitor icons and drag them to positions that represent how you want to move items from one monitor to another, and then click OK or Apply to view changes.

NOTE: The icon positions determine how you move items from one monitor to another. For example, if you are using two monitors and you want to move items from one monitor to the other by dragging left and right, place the icons side by side. To move items between monitors by dragging up and down, place the icons one above the other. The icon positions do not have to correspond to the physical positions of the monitors. You can place the icons one above the other even though your monitors are side by side.
Change Primary Monitor

1. On the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog box, click the monitor icon that represents the monitor you want to designate as the primary monitor.
2. Click to select the Use this device as the primary monitor check box. Note that this check box is unavailable when you select the monitor icon that is currently set as your primary monitor.

View Same Desktop in Multiple Monitors

1. On the Settings tab of the Display Properties dialog box, click the monitor icon that represents the monitor you want to use in addition to your primary monitor.

On a desktop computer, it is the monitor that is attached to the first video out port. Once you attach the second monitor and turn on your computer, use the Display tool in Control Panel to configure your settings, just as you do with multiple monitors. You can use Dualview with docked or undocked portable computers.

you must adjust the display settings in the software program that was being used to change the display setting.

If you have a flat panel LCD monitor, unplug the monitor power cable, wait about 30 seconds, reconnect the cable and then turn on the monitor. This resets the electronics on the monitor.

Make sure the monitor has power - the light on the monitor is on. If the light on the monitor is off, the monitor does not have power. Connect it to a different power outlet.

If the monitor has a detachable video cable, obtain a second monitor cable for testing purposes in case the cable is bad.

Have you made sure the laptop is outputting the the monitor? Does the monitor have dual inputs? if so check it is switched to the correct one. With the laptop turned on and connected, switch the monitor on and off.

1. Ensure the video cable is connected (and connected to the correct video port).
2. Turn off the monitor using the monitor's power button and then restart the monitor.
3. Cycle the power on the monitor as follows:
4. Turn off the monitor. The power light on the monitor should be off. Leave the computer turned on.
5. Unplug the power cord.
6. Wait 5 seconds.
7. Plug in the power cord.
8. Press the power button on the monitor to turn on the monitor. One of two things happens:
   1. The image from the computer displays on the monitor and you can use the computer again. This indicates that the monitor was unable to detect that the computer had awakened from suspend mode. Turn the monitor off when it is not being used or disable suspend mode. For some computers, updating the BIOS corrects these types of suspend problems.
   2. The power light on the monitor comes on but the screen displays one of the messages again. The monitor is not receiving a video signal from the computer that it can detect and use. Continue using these steps to adjust the Windows display resolution to the Monitor's native (default) resolution
   3. Connect the monitor to another computer that you know is working to determine if the monitor should be serviced or replaced:
      • If the monitor displays an image from another computer, you know that the monitor works. Troubleshoot the video connection and graphics adapter on the computer.
