HP pavilion DV6700nr laptop looses power

I have a HP pavilion DV6700nr laptop. It boots fine and runs for up to 45mins but it will all of the sudden shut off. When I tr to immediatley reboot it the lights light up and you can hear the drive start to spin and before it even gets to the bios screen it loses all power. But if I wait 10-15 mins it will start up fine again. The computer does not seem to be very hot but the fan seems to constantly run on high. I thought this might sound like an overheating issue. I dloaded a program and it says my GPU temp is 75C and my CPU is 78C. I dont know what the temp should be but I think this is kind of high? Any thought what could be causing this or my problem?

If it is (and it does sound like) a heat problem, the first thing do to would be to make sure the vents are clean and the fan and heatsink are free of dust buildup.

Here is a page from HP to assist you in doing so:

Reducing heat in notebooks

If you go into the BIOS setup, many have an option to monitor the CPU temp. Watch it and see what temp your computer shuts down.

Hope this helps. Thanks for using Fixya.

Display and Boot problem with HP Pavilion DV2125NR

It is normal for the bottom to get hot. The fan should keep it cool enough to run, but it sounds like perhaps your fan is not working very well anymore and should be replaced.

Does the computer act up at all when cool? If not, the first thing I would try is replacing the fan and examining the fan and heatsink assembly for proper installation, perhaps replace the heatsink compound with some Arctic Silver while you have it open.

I have to boot twice. Thn the computer runs fine.

This could be because of the static
Press the power key down for less than 2 minutes once you start the computer
then start the system normally.

Could be the dc connector has come loose from the motherboard or broken away inside. Take the machine to a repair shop and have them check it.

Hp pavilion dv9000 wont boot, coloured lines appear no bootscreen

This is caused by burn out of the Nvidia graphics chip on the motherboard. You need a new motherboard. This is due to a design flaw (the subject of a class action against HP in the USA). I have had two motherboards fail on me in this way so far - do not expect any worthwhile support from the HP "support" people they are all in India and can hardly communicate outside of their simple repetative scripts. Its impossible to escape them - I tried communicating with head office but all you get is contact details back to the incomprehensible Indian call centre. I strongly recommend against ever purchasing from HP again.
