If you have the Windows installation CD that cane with the Acer then boot the laptop with this Windows installation CD and reinstall Windows. Use the Windows Product Code label on the bottom of your laptop to install Windows.. You will also need to download the device drivers for your model laptop from the Acer WEB support site, make sure the download the correct XP or Vista version of the drivers which matches the Windows version you are installing.
you could try going to the boot menu, and choosing 'last known good', but that is probably not going to work.
you should be able to run a repair off the CD....
the file is a kernel, a neccessary file used by Windows. It may have gotten corrupted or deleted.. possibly by a virus or bad hard drive sector.
get a disc, and run repair, if that doesn't fix it, you may need to re-install a fresh copy of windows, which will over-write all your data. you may be able to boot to that upgrade CD and that may have a repair option...
If you created your system restore CDs when you purchased the system, insert your first CD into the CD drive and boot your computer. This will restore your computer to factory settings. ALL DATA WILL BE LOST.
1 Ensure all Data is backed up, all data will be deleted. 2 Restart machine 3 When your unit switches back on hold down alt & tap f10 repeatedly...(on Acer icon) 4 Please wait a moment until prompted, -How would you like to restore?- 5 Please select –Restore system to factory default- 6 Enter your defined password or enter six zeros ‘000000’ 7 Click ok 8 Please wait until process completed, this will take 45min – 1hour
If you are able, when the pc is booting up keep pressing F8, this will take you to safe mode and not allow the graphics driver to run.
When in the safe mode options, select either Last known good configuration or start windows in safe mode.
Last known good configuration should find the last good system settings, when it reboots.
Start windows in safe mode allows you to go into windows using the administartor account, and then you should select system restore and restore back to the day before or just before you updated the graphics driver.
