SOURCE: Brother HL-5240 drum light flashing

Normally clearing the drum count the machine has to be on open front cover as if to change the drum press and hold the button in for about 10 second then release and shut the door. This should reset the count if not please get back to me and I'll check the service manual to see if anything in that.

Thanks J

Brothers HL 1240 Alarm light on

Pull the drum out the front door, remove the toner cartridge and check for any paper and remove it.

Make sure there is toner in the toner cartridge. Look at the lights on the printer. Look at the labels beside them. The label "Toner" will have two lines going to two lights. If those two lights are on when you try to print, you are out of toner. But a now toner and install it in the drum. Install the drum back into the printer.

If not, look at the drum. At the rear top is an opening across the whole drum. Look inside it, you will see a metal grid. That grid must be clean or it will cause small sparks. These sparks will cause a false toner empty error. Buy a can of compressed air from Best Buy (or wherever). Use this compressed air to blow clean the grid. Move the small blue tab at one side of the opening ti the other side and back again. Reinstall the drum and try printing again.

If neither of those help, write back and let me know what lights stay on when the printer stops.

What model - Epson under heading. Brother as you speak, you speak of ink but also of a drum, machines that use a drum dont use ink. they use toner, so I guess you have a Brother MFC ???? ie 8820. Did you buy gen Brother Drum and Toner?

Is the insides of printer clean or full of powder?

Is there any image?

Stop a print halfway in machine and see if mark only occurs after paper has traveled threw the fuser (the hot bit at rear)
