Power head not working

Hi thanks for your help. We have a Dyson Stowaway with a DC 20 turbine head "for improved performance on carpets". Our power head is not working. We have pulled it down using the instructions and can't see anything causing the problem. The bristles do not rotate. If we put our hand on the suction point whilst the cover is off, it works. As soon as we put the cover on it doesn't seem to have suction and doesn't work. I'm not sure if there could be something wrong with the seal or if there's something really simple that I've missed. I really would appreciate anyone's suggestions on what could be happening. Cheers, Michelle

There is a gray button next to the red "power on" button that powers the brush unit. If the unit has tripped the reset for some reason it must be reset. This can be done by holding the gray button down for ten seconds while the unit is not running. When you power it up after this reset, the brush unit should run.

There is a belt which drives the brush head. Make sure that is not broken. Also, the pull out on the side of the unit that has the "filter" on it is the on/off for the brush head. Make sure this is pulled out so the brush head can rotate. Last of all, when you put the cover on the unit make sure it is completely flush with the unit and not binding the brush bar in any way.

Head beater not turning fast

Hi, it's Allan at Dyson.

In this case I would suggest this is down to a performance issue. The brushbar is a turbine head and will be powered by the airflow and not a motor.

I would suggest double checking the head itself for any tangles or blockages but make sure that the filters are all washed regularly.

If there is a blockage in the machine itself, then this will naturally cause an issue with performance.
How to remove blockage

If you continue to have difficulty, please give the Dyson Helpline a call on 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA), 0800 298 0298 (UK). Our experts will be happy to talk you through some further diagnostic checks when you have your machine easily to hand.

I hope this is helpful.

Best wishes,

Allan

I have a dc56, will the new tangle free turbine tool, part No 925068, fit it?

Hi Lyn, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC56, the new Dyson Hard vacuum cleaner, is engineered for quick cleanups on hard floor surfaces - wood, laminate, lino, tile etc. It also converts into a powerful handheld vacuum for dusting tasks around the home and inside the car.

The Dyson Hard is not designed for use on carpeted floors, and we do not manufacture a motorised head for this machine as it lacks the wiring and connections needed to supply current to a motorised head.

Airflow-driven Turbine heads, such as the Tangle-free Turbine tool, are engineered to work with the performance characteristics of our mains-powered vacuum cleaners, and are not compatible with Dyson cordless or handheld vacuums.

However, we do have a range of accessories which are compatible with DC56, and you can find these on our website: http://www.dyson.co.uk/accessories/variant-accessories.aspx?pid=DC56-dyson-hard

Dyson turbine head

Hi Kevin, Alec from VacuumSpot here. Unfortunately Dyson don't actually sell individual mechanical components to their turbine heads, so even though it is probably a pretty easy repair you can't get the parts. In this case you will have to buy a complete new head.

Dyson power head stops when on carpets, cleaned brush out, still happens.

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

As the Turbine head is air driven, you may need to wash the filter and check the rest of the machine for a blockage as a loss of suction will also reduce the performance of the Turbine head.

For the full blockage procedure and filter washing instructions, please visit the Support section of our website at www.dyson.com.

Kind regards
