Are they all green? If so, that's normal. They go red (or maybe amber?) when the protection circuit detects a problem.

Have you confirmed that you have good signal getting to the amplifier?

Have you checked the speakers to confirm that they're in good working order.

It appears that the power supply may have failed in the amplifier.

  • Perry Babin Dec 14, 2007

The power supply (switching power supply) is used to generate voltage for the amplifier's audio circuits. The LEDs are powered by the B+ input voltage. The switching power supply doesn't have to be working for the lights to be on.

If the FETs have failed, it can be repaired relatively easily but the repair would require buying the parts, removing the old parts (requires soldering) and installing the replacement parts. It's also possible that there could be other problems that caused the supply to fail. If you're not interested in learning to do this type of work, it may be better to to take it to a repair shop to have it repaired.

Sony xm gtx1852 amp new and worked for 1 day now is in protect mode even with nothing hooked up but the remote and power and ground.

meter the power side of the amp. sometimes the amp will go into protect if it doesnt have power. if power and remote and ground are good the amp is probably bad.

Xplod amp will not get off of power protection mode

if the protect light stays on the amp is blown or has flawed components and is only repairable by expirenced sony tech

Sony xplod amp(XM-1652Z ) power/protect light

if your amp is overheating your sub is needing to much power that the amp doesnt have.
if its cutting out and the red light comes on you need to check the wiring. nothing not even the tinyest speaker wires can be touching.
proper wiring would be your best bet.
but i would upgrade amps.
cheap bang isnt reliable.

Hi i have a 600 watt sony xplod amp model xm-554zr and it recently stopped working. when i turn my car on the amp turns on but only for a sec then the protection light comes on, on the amp and it wont...

sounds like maybe a speaker short, try unhooking your speakers and then powering up your amp, if it then powers up with the speakers unhooked try hooking up each speaker one by one untill the amp goes back into protection and then you have your bad speaker.

My sony xplod 1000w xm-1652z doesnt work anymore

First off, according to the manual, the protect light should be green. That's normal operation. If it is red, that's a problem.

If it does go red, disconnect all of the wiring to the amp except the +12V and ground. Short the remote connection to the +12V to force the amp on. If the protect light still lights red, the issue is inside the amp and will need repair. If the issue goes away, try reconnecting one wire at a time until the protect light goes red again.

Sony xm-1002hx

If the fuse blows only after the remote voltage is applied, the output transistors have likely failed. Never use a fuse larger than the one recommended by the manufacturer. It can lead to more extensive damage (including damage to the circuit board) which will make the amp much more expensive to repair.
