1 Answer

Lense error I have the same problem with my canon SD850 and it is about a year too. Good question is it a manufacturing problem. I recently threw away my receipt thinking I wouldn't need it (silly me) now i don't know if i can get it fixed without the receipt because it is still under warranty, Anyone else have any problems or have any ideas how to fix this

The camera is booting on ok but it does not show any response from half pressed autofocus. The lense does not move and neither does the photo, if it is blurry, it will remain so.

sir,
Canon PowerShot SD850 IS / IXUS 950 IS Digital Camera in this both models usually this problem appears, open the camera then take out the lens unit, below this unit you can see the iris control stepper motor and related small wheels this may be worn out or may be misplaced, correct it. if still problem, open the lens unit to check the possible break on the iris lens connecting cable.

My Quantaray 100 to 300mm (7 seven years old or so) for Canon AF cameras will not work consistently...It works on my Rebel 35 mm perfectly, but not on my new digital SLR Rebel T1i. The auto focus works,...

Your problem is a simple one: technology doesn't stand still.

Your lens was designed to work with Canon technical protocols which existed seven years ago and things have advanced somewhat since then.

With some third party lenses it's possible to send the lens to the manufacturer's service agent and pay to have it serviced and updated, but this cannot be done with your lens.

You'll have to buy a more recent lens model if you want to use it on your Rebel T1i. Older Canon lenses should mostly still work (unless Canon clearly state otherwise) as Canon will have taken their design into account on later bodies, but Canon have no interest nor any reason to make their later bodies able to use older non-Canon products.

Sorry that this is not the answer you hoped for, but I hope that you have still found it to be of some use and that you take a moment to rate my reply.

There are numerous suggestions on-line elsewhere for this common problem with Canon lenses. Does your display give you an error message? If yes, google that error message and you should find many suggestions for fixes. I know some places actually advocate just forcing it back into the properly aligned position although I think that should be a last resort. I have not done this myself but there are many who have fixed these cameras successfully. Good luck

When I try to turn on my Canon PowerShot SD850 IS, I keep seeing: Lens Error, restart camera. Is there anything I can do to fix it, or must it be replaced? Thanks so much!

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Canon 850 IS Grey 'Smudge' on Photos

Sounds like your ccd/sensor may have gotten dirty. This is not common in point and shoot cameras, but can be fixed. You may send it to the manufacturer or for a faster turn around, take it to an Authorized Service Center. I know of one in Florida 305-653-7355

My canon SD850 IS digital camera is not even a year old and well taken care of. I thasnt been dropped and is already broken? What do i do...everytime i turn it on all of the sudden the lense is stuck poped...

Take a look at the suggestions at the top of page 122 of the Advanced Camera User Guide. The suggestion is that the cause may have been that the camera was still on when the memory card/battery cover was opened. Try closing the cover and then turning the camera off and then on again. Hope this helps.

Lenses

Your camera's problem is with the zooming mechanism (lens would not retract or extended) Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
