Question about Casio EXILIM ZOOM EX-Z850 Digital Camera

Blank screen when taking photos

I have had my camera for about 2/3 years, and it has been through hell and back with me. However, in the last 2 days it has developed a very strange problem: When I turn the wheel onto 'picture' mode, it will show an image for 2 seconds, then the screen will go blank and a yellow light flashes intermittently. The strange thing is it will still take pictures and they are perfectly fine, and it will even let me review the images afterwards but it will not show anything on the screen while in 'picture' or 'manual exposure' mode.
This is a very strange scenario, and would appreciate any help or comments. I doubt very much Casio will repair it under warranty as it is a bit bashed to say the least!
Thanks, Lauren.

Camera is on! but blank screen when i turn it on !

Does it actually work? Does it take pictures? It may be that "liveview" is off-that is the screen you normally view on when taking your photos. Try using it and then playing your photos back and check if its woking. A mate of mine had that problem last week and thought her camera was broken!

Turns itself off every time I try to take a photo

I had a similar problem with my Cyber-shot S600. It just turned off every time I tried to take a photo. I bought a Sony recharger + batteries and it fixed the problem. Camera works fine and I'm impressed with the how long the batteries last between charges.

I bought mine 2 1/2 yrs ago too. Found this solution on this site and tried it. It worked perfectly.
Turn to TV mode, set the exposure to 15 seconds by pushing the little "arrow dial" until you have 15"
Push the button to take the picture.
Wait 7 seconds from when you push the button, then turn over and open the battery door while it is "taking the picture."
Close the battery door and turn back on.
I did this three times and the last time, it worked and the iris became unstuck.
Then I took a million pictures to get the iris moving.
Good luck!

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):

Blank Screen and faulty shutter blades

I found out the hard way that you should never use alkaline batteries in a Digital Camera. I thought my camera had a fundamental flaw (power kept going off whenever I tried to take a photo or record a video and the shutter blades half closed) even though it was only 2 months old. I nearly wrote it off but all along the problem was that I was using alkaline batteries, which incidentally were enclosed with the camera in the box!! Once I switched to NiMH (Nickel) batteries the camera worked fine and the fault completely vanished! These NiMH batteries are avaiable in most electrical shops i.e currys/comet in the UK. They must be charged before use. They are more expensive than alkaline batteries (£8-£9 for 4) but as they are rechargable they last a long time.
