Outside compressor unit not blowing. The solenoid

Outside compressor unit not blowing. The solenoid is engaged and have tried cleaing the contact points with flat screwdriver and compressed air.

If fan is not on check to make sure gettion 230 v to unit the contactor is 24v controled by the indoor unit look at the capacitor to make sure not swelled up on top if so bad you can turn off power and jump around contactor if you feel it is pitted to bad to run unit most of time when bad they weld together a new one is adout 15.0 seperate wires with zip ties to not get mixed up also check wires at compressor they sometimes come off hopr this helps

Check the unit to see if the outdoor fan and compressor are coming on. If not, check to see if power is reaching the contactor, both the high power contacts and the low voltage solenoid. Some contactors can be manually actuated, and a quick press (with a NON CONDUCTIVE ITEM) can show you if the contactor is engaging. If the solenoid is not working, check the wiring of your thermostat. When set to cool mode, there should be voltage on the solenoid of the primary contactor, sending power to the outdoor fan motor and compressor.

If the outdoor fan and compressor engage normally, then make certain the coils are free of debris and other blockages. If air flows freely and the compressor is running, feel the tubing for temperature changes. One side should grow cooler and the other warmer.

If the compressor runs but there is no temperature change, take your unit to a certified technician to check for leaks and system pressures. Roof top units typically use R22 refrigerant not R134a automotive refrigerant, which require EPA certification for purchase and dispensing.

My 2002 neon's A/C blows warm air. The vent pressure is working well- but it blows warmer than the outside air. Can I fix this myself? What might the problem be?


If you are handy, yes you can. Most likely causes are loss of freon which would prevent the compressor clutch from being engaged and operating the compressor, a lack of 12 volts being applied to the compressor clutch because the a/c compressor fuse or relay has failed, preventing the clutch from engaging the compressor, or the compressor clutch itself failing. Easy test is to watch the compressor pulley with the motor running. The pulley will, of course be spinning, but the circular assembly mounted to the front of the pulley will spin with the pulley only when the compressor is engaged. There is a sensor mounted to the a/c line that prevents the clutch from engaging the compressor if there in not enough freon in the system. You could go to auto zone or checker and buy a can of freon r-134 with a hose for around $15.00. It is fairly easy to follow the instructions to charge the system. If, after allowing some of the can to pressurize the system, the compressor clutch engages then you can continue to charge the system. Cold air should start to blow by the time the can is empty. Or you can locate the a/c relay located in the fuse panel, remove its plastic cover and manually close the contacts while observing the compressor pulley assembly. If the clutch doesn't engage then the problem in probably electrical, a fuse, the relay or the electric clutch itself. Go to auto zone and check you their dvd on a/c repair for under $9.00. Ac will blow warm air, the clutch does not engage. Could this be a compressor prob? Looked in the manual ...no trouble shooting ideas


Since you know that the clutch must engage in order for the compressor to operate, then there are most likely one of causes. The first is low or no freon in the system. The a/c system has a pressure sensor mounted in the low( return) side hose that prevents the clutch to engage if the freon is too low. The second would be the a/c fuse or relay faulty, preventing the clutch solenoid( a 12 volt electrically operated solenoid) from engaging. And the third would be that the clutch itself is bad because the solenoid wiring has broken. I suggest that first you locate the a/c clutch relay in the relay panel, remove the relay, carefully remove the plastic cover from the relay and reinstall the relay. The clutch should engage the compressor when you manually close the relay contact with your finger for one or two seconds. If the clutch does engage, your electrical circuit in ok and you are probably low on freon. A half of a can of r-134 in more that enough to operate the pressure switch. If it doesn't engage, check the a/c fuse or the clutch solenoid itself. Get back to me and let me know how things went. Dano

My outside unit wont start. the inside fan is running but just blowing normal air, not cold?


check you contact on your outside unit, the relay may have gone bad. In the corner remove four screws, and the cover should come off it may have a fifth in the middle. It is a black square, T1 T2 T3 and L1 L2 L3 , it has a relay in between. Make sure you have you voltage coming in(line the L's), if you don't then somewhere around the unit is a box check and make sure the fuse/breaker is good. If you have power, with an insulated screwdriver or you finger push the contact in, the compressor and fan should run. Now if the relay is engage then it is more then likely the fan motor or capacitor. Hoped this helped tim

Ac unit clicks outside but nothing engages fan or compressor on unit furnace still runs for heat setting and fan still blows but ac will not engage just hear a clicking was running for three days this...


Have you check the outside breaker? If its ok then you got a problem in your electrical system inside the unit probably the contactor is not engaging this is where the 24 volts from the thermostat calls for the 240 volts to run the condenser fan and compressor. Be careful checking this out because of the high voltage.

My Goodman Mfg AC unit is blowing fuses on the control board inside the blower/air handler unit. This fuse supplies 24V to the outside compressor unit. Originally, there was a 3 A fuse in it. I replaced it...


Actually you might get a ohm meter the reads to at least 40 megaohms and check the coil on the solenoid valve as well as the coil on the contactor. That would determine which coil ic failing. They should read out above 40 megaohms.
