HI, the motor is failing slowly and, i recommend replacing this damaged motor asap before it starts to over heat and present a fire hazard.

Washer seems to be stuck on spin. Has slight oil/rubber burning smell. Will only advance out of spin if you manually turn the knob to the next step.

The timer is bad and needs to be replaced. if you continue to run it this way you will need to replace the motor coupling real soon. That is where the burning rubber smell coming from.

Smells like motor is burning. during first wash cycle, washer stopped and there was an electrical burning smell??

YOUR WHIRLPOOL WASHER COULD HAVE A MOTOR PROBLEM, IT IS POSSIBLE THAT SOMETHING HAS GOT CAUGHT IN THE MOTORS WINDINGS AND SHORTED IT OUT. IT YOU CAN STILL HEAR THE MOTOR RUNNING BUT THERE IS NO AGITATION IT COULD BE THAT YOUR DIRECT DRIVE COUPLER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, PART NUMBER IS 285753. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE WASHER IS OVERLOADED AND CAN CAUSE A BURNING SMELL SINCE THIS PART IS RUBBER AND PLASTIC. IF YOUR WASHER IS MAKING ANY SORT OF BANGING NOISE THIS COULD BE THE PROBLEM. YOU CAN CHECK THIS BUT IT DOES INVOLVE REMOVING THE PUMP AND MOTOR. ANOTHER POSSIBLE PROBLEM IS THAT THERE IS SIMPLY A BURNED CONNECTION ON YOUR UNITS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND IF IT CANNOT BE REPAIRED IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED.HOPE THIS HELPS

THANKS

WHIRLPOOL TOP LOAD WASHER MAKING GRINDING NOISE FOR AGITATION

When you put the motor in did you replace the coupler between the motor and transmission? When fixing the agitator you need to get the agitator repair kit, It has seals, dogs, thrust plate, cam bearing and seals. The upper agitator is supposed to move only in one direction to get the clothes to move down towards the agitator. Do not overload machine. I have one of these and after 12 years I finally had to install this upper repair kit because the upper agitator quit moving. You may have an agitate cam that is going bad inside the transmission

Slow agitating

Sounds like a failure in the gear case but the burning smell makes me wonder if you have a problem with the motor. You will need a appliance tech to verify

Whirlpool top loader won't spin

If you are lucky you need a set of clutches about $45. If you are unlucky you would need a transmission.

Since it spins after you help it, I am guessing clutches.

Washer doesn't agitate.

Hi Karen,
It is not normal to smell a burning smell after a new coupler install. If the pump is not held on the motor with two clamps then it will raise off of the motor and strip the pump. This would cause the burning smell and also cause you to need a new pump. Before you use it again install the second pump clamp. If you cant find it let me know and we can ship you one over. Whirlpool Ultimate care 2 (ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD)

Sounds like the clutch is slipping but sometime catching. Or maybe the transmission is almost gone. Is there a burning smell? If so, probably clutch.
