I have in Intertherm gas furnace. The system runs, hot air comes out of the vents, but it smells like burnt plastic, and the red light on the circuit board is lit up...

There is a short circuit developing in an electrical circuit in the furnace. Do not turn it back on and call a service technician to examine it.

Furnace switches to auxiliary heat while in cool

It's likely a bad tstat. Turn the power off to your air handler. Remove red , green, yellow and orange wires inside the tstat and wire nut them together. Not sure if your reversing valve energizes in heating or cooling but, turn the power back on. If the unit is heating turn the power off and remove just the orange wire and turn power back on. Let this run and see if it you are ONLY getting cool air ALL the time. If so you have a bad stat. If still getting heat possibly you have a bad control board in the air handler. Good Luck!!

Hi, did he bypass the high limit to see if it was bad? Sounds like you are getting false codes and you have a problem in your module or main board, which ever you have. The way it is acting, saying the high limit is open but the tech says its not, I would change the board.

Hi,

There is nothing you can do if they want heat....the convection currents are what heats the rooms....hot air naturally rises and the cooler air falls to the floor... can't change nature...

When we turn on the central air there is a strong burning smell...like burnt toast but way stronger. IS it safe to remian in the house?

Is your central air furnace or electric heat. Electric furnace sometimes have electric strip sequencer stick in the closed positions leaving on one strip of the electric heat. Get a service tech as soon as possible to check this out. Any smells from a central unit need to be teken care of promptly. TURN OFF unit you have it checked for your safety. Rus

A miswire

The blower is smoking because you have it hooked up to the same wires you've hooked the electric coil to.  That coil runs on 240 volts.  Those wires are typically red and black.  The motor runs on 120.  One of the wires should be shifted to a neutral (white wire).  Assuming the motor is still alive...this will fix it.

Intertherm heat coils won't stay off until breakers off, thermostats are off

it is the heat sequencers. it happens all the time. replace them wire by wire to keep it simple. they are located behind the metal next to the breakers they look like this: cdf7518.jpg
