I bought a new Hayward Super Pump and there is a loud clicking noise from the motor as soon as the pump fills with water and becomes pressurized. When I backwash with the pump pressureized there is no sound.

Make sure the pump motor is set for 115 volts, it soumds like you have the motor set at the factory 230 v setting and are trying to run it on 115 v look on the motor label it will show you how to set the motor up for 115 v (if the breaker is wide 230 if its skinny like the ones that control your lights its 115v ..if you have ran it for awhile like this you may want to search your area for your local pool pump motor repair guy w/ free testing, because you may have damaged the start capacitor about 20.00 or less fix.if not this can come back to haunt you later,,jay

Correcting the clicking noise constantly when the pump is running is a indication of a split in one leg of the wire, therefore the pump is set at the factory at 230, and is running on 115. definitely the problem. one wire is split, easy fix,

The pumps always start with a click to initially start but in your case I would say your trying to feed it 120 volts without changing its setting in the motor.

As soon as the motor starts up after the dishwasher fills, the motor makes a loud grinding noise that turns into high pitch whining. Water begins leaking from above the pump.

That shows a leaking water seal. Water would run into the motor bearings which then rust and make noise. You probably need the motor / pump kit.

better check the power coming into the pump. Is it 240 or 120?

Double check that you have the correct setting on the motor for whichever amount of power your feeding it.

How can I tell if my noisy Hayward Super 1hp pump noise is in the motor or the pump?

99.9999% OF THE TIME its the bearings going bad, and need t be replaced asap.due to a bad shaft seal... search your area for your local pool pump motor repair guy with free testing. should be around $75 to repair it if caught in time.. here in florida lizards, frogs, grass and snakes and the such get into the motor and you can get that grinding sound but it will soon fade, but can restrict airflow and make your motor run hot and fail prematurely.. so if the noise doesn't fade in say a hour or two.. have it checked .. here is how to remove most pump motors just click on this link.. hope it helps ya .. jay florida

My haywood pool motor is loud. Think it may be

Nope.... just replace the motor.... Some shops will redo bearings, but usually a 30 day warranty and a long wait.. Walk out the door with a new one with usually a 1 year warranty...
