1.Yes, you can replace the sensor. All electronics can be repaired if the parts are available however you will need the original part to correct this. 2. You will need experience in electronic troubleshooting/ repair to not only replace this part but to know if the surrounding parts that are associated with said part are ok or not defective. All electronics parts in circuit are connected to something else and must be tested to see if they contributed to the breakdown of another electronic part. More details of what you are experiencing is needed to check what is really the fault.

I would return it and try to get a General Electric remote. They are nice and very inexpensive. I have many tv's and it works for all of them.

SOURCE: Remote sensor in the TV

First Inspect the remote batteries. also make sure TV is not on a LOCK ON option... now, the sensor is a small smoothly part near the TV front buttons, you can clean it carefully FYI, exposing unit remote sensor to direct fluorescent or outdoor light may cause signal interference.

If still under warranty or if you have no electronic repair experience take the set back to the shop or to a repair person. Some of the solutions described below can be dangerous, TV's are very hazardous to service. If the TV fell recently the following might apply to you: 1. Cracked circuit board very possible, try changing it. There is a very good chance that the circuit board has some broken traces. You would not be able to see this by eye unless this was very bad. The way to find this, is to troubleshoot the set on the bench to determine which stages are not working correctly, and pursue from there to find where the signal paths, or missing voltages are sourced from. If the set fell, there is also a good chance that the CRT is damaged inside. These tubes are extremely sensitive to being hit or jarred abruptly. I have seen a TV set banged against the side of a door frame while being moved, thus causing damage to the shadowmask of the tube. 2. Check for A/V input circuit board not seated all the way. If this board comes loose, your video will disappear. In case no violence disturbed you set: 1. It is very possible that something is changed in the user setup that is causing the no useable input condition. Check the owners manual and verify the proper user settings, especially the Tv-Guide settings for use with or without cable box or vcr if tv has that feature. 2. this is a fix for a similar set, might apply to yours: Try resoldering all 3 legs of q2300 the if amp transistor and usually pins 1-8 of u2300 the IF ic. This usually takes awhile because there are sometimes a lot of poor joints in that area of the board, look it over very carefully it usually fixes these sets. Good luck, and please try not to take any chances

To dignose if your remote control is faulty just point your digital camera towards your remote and push the buttons.
If your remote works you should see light flashing on the LCD view finder of your camera.

Repairing the remotes can be succesful about 90% of the time unless the remote has been chewed by the family dog ?
