SOURCE: craftsman tiller tines wont engage or turn

sounds like the chain or belt inside is broke i just redid one like that with the same problem it was the chain broke i had to tear it down and change the chain its a job but it can be done unless u are not mechanically incline,if you are not it would be cheaper in the long run to take it to someone.

SOURCE: Honda FG100 Tiller - Tines wont move

I took the transmission apart and the gears were fine. The friction pads on the centrifugal clutch don't seem to make full contact with the drum. Does anyone know what the thickness of the friction pads are suppose to be? I used some belt dressing on the pads and got some movement on the tines. With no wear on the gears, I guess I'll be replacing the clutch.

If you cant move the tines by hand then I wouldn't think you sheared the pins, more like a gear box problem.

When I Start Mantis Tilleer it starts in gear ( tines are turning)

The Mantis has a speed controlled automatic clutch.

Lower the idle speed by turning the idle screw counter clockwise. The idle screw is attached where the throttle cable meet the carb. The screw has a pointed end that resembles a pencil point.

The engine speed should be adjusted just above stalling.

If the tines turn even when the engine pull rope is pulled, the the clutch is defective and needs repairing.

Tines

Either clutch is bad or teeth are striped in bottom gear box. remove tines run engine and see if you can feel movment in lower gear box, if yes the gears are gone. If no remove engine to expose clutch.

The tines on a honda f220 always spin and don't change speed when clutch is engaged but speed up when throttle is increased. Adjusted cable with no luck.

I believe that unit utilizes a centrifical clutch. try decreasing the idle speed and see if the tines stop. They should then engage as throttle is increased.

Tines rotate slow when I try to till.

The clutch is non adjustable if the clutch fails you will have drive all the time or it slips. if the tines spin at the same speed with the engine at low and high speed the clutch might be slipping, the common cause for this is the gear box is partly siezed due to no grease being pumped into it, most ppl dont even know about this untill its too late. you have to remove the LH side tines to get to the screw.

I have a craftsman cultivator, 2 hp model 536.292522. the engine runs, but the tines only turn untill they touch the ground, then they stop. does anyone know how the centrifugal(?) clutch works? does it...

the centrifugal clutch is steel on steel, if the tines are turning at all, the clutch is okay. unfortunately, what you are describing is a worn sector or pinion gear inside the transmission. not difficult to repair but time consuming and pretty expensive
