Question about Nintendo DS Console

Ds lite top screen only displaying many vertical colored lines

I bought a broken NDS Lite, with hopes of fixing it on my own. I replaced the power switch and the top screen already. The previous top screen would only work when there was a clamp pushing down on the left side of the console. I figured that the woman I had bought it from had crumpled the ribbon cable to the point where one of the connections had broken and the clamp held it in the only place it would connect again. So I purchased a new top screen, soldered on the speakers, and tried my best not to damage the ribbon cable in any way. It all seemed fine until I tested the screen afer I had reassembled most of the bottom half. The bottom screen functioned perfectly, as it always had, but the new top screen now turns white as the console turns on, then fades into a bunch of multicolored vertical lines. I have disconnected and reconnected the screen a few times now, but nothing has changed. I am concerned that I ave purchased a faulty screen. Although it was not particularly expensive, I do not wish to purchas another. If anyone has any ideas of things to try to get it to work, I would absolutely love to hear them.

The only thing you can do is buy a new ds. you can try to sell that ds to another person who thinks they can fix it.

Nintendo DS lite bottom screen is white.

Sounds like the screen is broke. Before you change the screen you may want to have a look at where the LCD ribbon connects to the motherboard it may be loose. It would be worth while opening the DS and disconnecting and then reconnecting this ribbon to see if it solves the problem before ordering a new ds screen.

Broken nds ribbon cable

Yes, this can be fixed. You will need to replace the top LCD screen of the NDS, as the cable attaches directly to it. The speakers will need to be soldered to the new top LCD screen, as the top replacement screens usually do not come with speakers attached to it.

Turns on and lights up but no images on top screen

The DS top screen has two components, which are the LCD display, and the backlight. If the LCD display has gone bad but the backlight still works and the connecter is seated properly, the DS will still power on and the lower screen will be normal, and the top screen will light, but it won’t display anything.

You didn’t mention if your DS is the original DS or the DS Lite. Replacement top screens for the DS Lite are cheap on eBay, but installing the screen is a bit complex. The screen for the original DS is a different part and they are more expensive and hard to find.

I’ve never worked on an original DS, so I can only tell you about installing the top screen on a DS Lite.

First, the DS Lite has to be just about completely disassembled. You have to completely remove the top and bottom cases, pull out the microphone and wi-fi cables, and release the connecter for the top screen, which is located on the main board in the lower case. You’ll need the tri-wing screwdriver. You can leave the bottom screen/touch screen assembly attached to the main board, but be careful not to pull or tear the flex cables. Check YouTube for videos on disassembling the DS Lite.

Here’s the deal breaker for most people: The speakers are soldered to the flex cable of the top screen. I’ve never seen a replacement sold with speakers. You’ll have to unsolder your speaker wires from the old screen cable and reconnect them to the new one. If you can’t solder, you could take the screens to a local tv/electronics repair shop and pay to have it done. I got this information for you from http://wiinewz.com/forums/nds-general-discussion/72805-ds-top-screen-white-blank.html this appears to be a common problem I hope this helps

Ndsl power problem

As Bob (HowlingMad) said, the Ds and Ds Lite will turn off immediately after being turned on if the connection to the top screen is broken.

Check the connections between the screen and Ds, if they look damaged then try replacing the ribbon cable for the top screen (or you may have to replace the whole screen - i'm not sure if it is built together on the Ds Lite). If the connections appear fine then it may be that due to the movement the connector has come out of it's socket/plug (also like Bob said), this is easily fixable if this is the case and would require you to take the casing off your Ds and plug it back in.

Hope this helps

Its possible though sometimes it is expensive so dont worth the work.

-Top screen broken: you can buy a replacement and carefully do the work by yourself with the help of a guide (youtube have many) and some tools (3 winding screwdriver is the less common though not much). The foil data ribbon can be bought separatelly for the original NDS though the new NDS lite have it soldered and very difficult to work.

-Broken plastics: a broken hinge means you need to buy a replacement shell. Anyway buy a complete shell from a DS modding shop or take parts from a non broken plastics DS (water damaged one may be good) in a place like ebay. You would be lucky if you find a non broken screens and good plastics DS for parts.

At the end you may be over your repair budget and not only that, you would be very near to buy a new unit with this money. Each one make its own choice.

Good Luck...

Conection?

Here is a guide to dismantle an original Nintendo2.gif DS:

How to dismantle a Nintendo DS.

If yours is the NDS Lite, just find this video2.gif in youtube: "Disassembling Nintendo DS2.gif Lite"

And after opening it you can do your work. Make sure the flexible cables connecting the top screen part of your DS are well in place and not broken. Your problem may be only a loosen cable but in case the cable is broken you gonna need a replacement. Be careful not to damage the screen or other sensitive electronic parts on your device and you will be on your way.

Good Luck...
