Question about Maytag MFI2568AES Stainless Steel Bottom Freezer French Door Refrigerator

1 Answer

The temperature panel is blinking on our refrigerator, the ice chute door at the bottom of the chute keeps opening and closing on its own. I can't get it to stop. I unplug it, but when I plug it back in, after a few minutes is starts all over again.

Thank you so much. I had a towel stuck in there to stop the sound, but that suggestion of unplugging it was great. I never would have looked there. I will call in the morning to the warranty company and see when they can come out. The refrigerator and freezer still seems cold. I don't think this problem is changing the temperature, or am I incorrect? Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it.

The problem is the high voltage control board located behind a panel on the back of the unit & needs to be replaced. In the meantime, on the front left hand side hinge is a cover. Remove the cover, You will see a plug connector. Unplug & re-cap till you receive the replacement door. It'll stop the unit from flapping... Hope this helps... Bill

Your temp should be fine and remain unaffected. also a correction in my previous statement. I meant to type Replacement Board not Door.

Refrigerator stays on mostly, electrical bill up; cleaned evaporator coils, inside vents are free of obstructions. What now?

When compressor runs all the time it does indicate a problem. What is the model number? Look at the rear wall of the freezer for a frost build up? How well is the door seals on both doors? Ice chute door is it closed completely? You really need to look close on the ice chute door to see if tight just 1/8 of an inch open will keep refrigerator going all the time. How about temperatures in both compartments? I'm here should you have question, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Frost builds up on outside of ice maker

The little door that opens and lets the ice fall into Your cup is not closing all the way, allowing cold air to escape from Your Freezer and causing frost to build up. Simply look up at it or open the Freezer door and place a lit flashlight in the ice chute so You can see where the light is shining through the ice dispenser at. There should be a build-up of ice there that is keeping the "trap door" from closing all the way. Clean that off and You should be as good as new.

Panel keeps flashing and ice door keeps opening and closing

You have a maytag refrigerator and it has a bad main pcb (on the back of the unit). Put a rag in the ice chute to keep the door from making so much racket. If you post your model number I will get you a part number.

If you want to verify what I am saying you can unplug the unit and remove the cover panel from the main pcb on the back of the fridge and one or two of the capacitors will be rounded on the top, not flat like the others. If that is the case then that is the problem.

Lights on panel blinking. ice dispenser keeps opening and closing

there is the HV board on the back under a cover . 2 680uf capacitors @ 35v are likely domed instead of flat on the top and are likely hot. replacing these with an equal value will cure the problem. they are in parallel so 1000 and 470uf will cure it. mine was same model except white. local dealer said no warranty. did not call maytag but he indicated it might help. good luck

The ice dispenser chute sticks open allowing warm air into the freezer. Once the chute sticks open, you have to reset it manually but sticking your hand into the ice chute in the door.

There is a solenoid that operates the door that could have stopped working. Can you hear it?
The hinge on the door could be broken or the bracket it goes in could be broken. You'll have to look to see what's wrong.

Remove the dispenser cover by gently prying starting at the bottom going round and round a little at a time to prevent from breaking it. When it's off the screws will be exposed to access the other components.

GE Profile 26.6 cu. ft. side by side is frosting in the shoot

Oddly enough, the problem is with your ice dispenser. What happens is that the door at the bottom of the ice chute is probably not sealed. This is likely because there is a solenoid that is supposed to hold that door open when you push your cup against the dispenser arm, and THEN, close it again when you release. If the chute door is not sealed, warmer, moist air from outside the refridgerator will be canstantly drawn up the chute where the moisture will freeze as frost. Gradually, this frost builds up in the chute until there is no longer enough room foir the ice to fall. You can usually look up at the chute from outside and see that the door is not sealed. In my case, I left it unsealed because the door would not open to let the ice out. It took me about 3 months to figure out that this was causing my frost-clogging problem. The solution is to replace the solenoid that is supposed to open and close the chuite door. If you remove the despenser panel, you will see that this solenoid is probably all rusted up and not working. The following link will allow you to enter you model number and see a diagram of the offending area. http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

yes,you need to pull the front panel on the ice maker off to get to the solinoid that opens and closes the flap, with the flap vranked open you are letting cold air out and warm air in and that makes frost,if you don't want to try and fix it your self put a cloth towel in the chute to block the air lose and call an honest local appliance repair person-mike

Bottom of ice maker/dispenser frosting over

Open the freezer door and look down the ice chute while you shine a flashlite up the dispenser cute from the outside. If you see light around the chute door, it needs to be replaced or something is wrong with the mechanism. The problem you describe is almost always air leakage around that flap.
Post back if you need more help.
