This problem has different solutions depending on your tomtom model.
A flat and or faulty battery on some models and a faulty display panel on others. More info required

I had this problem today, updated the software, now the unit seems to be working perfectly. The unit "crashes" (single line down screen center) as soon as it get enough satelites to work with WAAS.

Go to Garmin site for software updates. Download and install the WebUpdater. Once or unit is hooked up to your computer and you have internet access, the software will download and update your GPS with the latest software fixes. I had software Version 3.7. For the Legend, Version 3.9 fixes the problems with WAAS.

People! The problem is that your software version needs updating. A recently added satellite creates a glitch in the older software. Go to the Garmin website, load WebUpdater if you haven't already done so, and the updated version (3.8) will automatically install to your Garmin unit. I had the same symptoms, they have now disappeared and my Etrex Vista is back to normal.

Have you updated your unit's software from the Garmin site? There was a new satellite launched in 2008 which has been causing problems, and the new update fixes this.

Accordingto Garmin, this problem can be fixed by disabling the WAAS feature in teh set up menu. There is an incompatibility between the old Garmin software and latest WAAS upgrades. Later software from Garmin is supposed to fix this problem.

On all the plasma tvs there are control boards on the lower part of the screen that control the vertical images. If one of the chips on one of the boards fail, have a bad connection, or no ground it will result in a thick black line down the screen.

IF YOU HAVE A SOLID BLACK LINE RUNNING VERTICALLY THEN YOU HAVE A FAULTY MATRIX INVERTER. IF CENTRAL THE MAIN VERTICAL INVERTER NEEDS CHANGED. LEFT = LEFT VERTICAL INVERTER RIGHT=RIGHT.........

ANOTHER WAY TO GET THIS FAULT IS WORN OR DAMAGED RIBBON/PLASTIC GOING FROM THE SCREEN MATRIX TO THE INVERTER

Lines on the Screen, shut down and will not turn back on

Hi, the issue may with the LCD panel. I work in DELL and have been getting lot of issues like this. It's called vertical line defects.. You can connect and external monitor and press Fn and F8 to toggle the display over to the Monitor. If the display is fine, replace the LCD screen. If the system is under wrranty, call Dell tech support and get a replacement or else call 800-288-4410 (out of warranty repair) department to send your laptop for repair. If the display is the same on the monitor, then the video card/Motherboard has to be replaced.

sounds like a graphics card failing

is it on board graphics ?

if so try a graphics card in there see if that helps it

also if you could borrow a monitor and see if that helps

Problem

Hello.
This indicates that your vertical sweep has failed and the auto protection circuit is shutting down the video so you do not permanently burn that line you see into the phosphor coating of the CRT.
At any rate, the vertical sweep circuits need repair before the unit will work again.
