I recommend you check check all your air vents for dust buildup. Use an old toothbrush to brush the dust away from the vent holes and blow air through the vents using one of those compressed air cans made for cleaning keyboards. One time I worked on a Sony laptop that I had to take apart to get all the dust cleaned out of the air vent. If you think overheating is still a problem I recommend downloading a free piece of software named FanSpeed. Here's a link. http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/SpeedFan.shtml I'll let you read the description for yourself, but in short it allows you to monitor the temperature inside your computer and to adjust how the fans react to this temperature.

Sometimes it di happen , specialy in most laptop which is being used more frequently and longer usage, the advisable use of a laptop is atleast 2 to 4 hours then shut it off and have cool down for 30 minutes to one hour then you can used it again, unless you got a support inclined base for laptop with support ventilating fan to help down minimize the heat accumulated during the usage.

have it check your video card with the proper technician, but first try to cool down your unit and try to open it again, and if still does'nt work then have it check by the service center

Gateway laptop ml3108b no screen coming on

this is a common fault with this laptop, the only way to repair this is to strip the laptop, remove the mother board, heatsink and fan under the heatsink you will see the nvidia chip this needs to be heated to 480C for about 5 mins only heat the nvidea chip nothing else! paste chips and replace heatsink fan etc laptop should now be fixed, remember to clean fan whilst it is out as a clogged fan probably caused the fault in the first place

Remove system battery and power cord.

Remove the keyboard screws, flip KB toward front. Then you will see a small battery, remove the battery for about 30 seconds then replace.

After battery and KB replaced power on unit.

Fan error - Gateway M305CRV

There should only be one processor fan in this model. The computer may allow you to continue to work, but you should refrain from doing this due to the potential heat damage to your Processor. The reason it "misbehaves" is because as the computer heats up, the processor loses functionality. Usually the end result is that the computer will lock up or crash. Occasionally you melt your processor and it must be replaced.

In terms of replacing a fan, it is more on the intermediate side of laptop repair. If you have never taken a laptop apart before, I would think really hard about doing so, or go to a website like www.eServiceinfo.com that sells repair manuals for your laptop. It will take a good amount of mechanical aptitude to do this and some knowledge of electronics.

Due to the age of the computer, it would not be cost effective to take it to a repair shop since it may cost you almost what it would be to buy a new one of the same model.
