Question about Frigidaire FGR211AS Gas Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer doesn't heat...

I am going crazy with my gas dryer. I have a frigidire/electrolux FGR211AS1. I looked at many suggestions, and tested all possible problems. Both thermostats measured 0 ohms, the ignitor measured 60 ohms, and the heat sensor seemed fine. I cleaned out all possible lint, and made sure all paths are clear. The wierd thing is that whenever I take the dryer apart, when I put it back together, the heat works the first time I try the dryer, but after I shut it off, and re-start it, no more heat. I figured that since the thermostats seemed fine, and it would start the first time, so the ignitor works, it must be the heat sensor. I just replaced the sensor, and still the same problem. I don't want to keep replacing parts, but it seems the ignitor is the next thing I should replace. I just don't want to keep buying new parts, and find out that it still won't work. Do you think the ignitor is the best answer, or do you have another suggestion?? Please help me figure this problem out. Thanks

    Localwonder,
Thanks for the reply, I can't imagine it's the gas valve coils, because it works after I take the unit apart, but only one time, then it won't heat again. I don't believe my model has a thermal fuse, and I tested the thermostats, they seem to be fine. I figure it's the ignitor, but I can't check my model's ignitor, because the door has to be attached for the drum to turn, and I can't access the ignitor without taking the door off.

Check the following to address this issue--

1. Gas valve coils
Igniter glows, then shuts off without igniting gas - the problem is probably with defective coils (black, located on top of the gas valve). It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Note: Sometimes the whole gas valve may be defective, thus not letting the gas out. However, this problem is not common.

2. Thermal fuse
Most dryers have a thermal fuse, which burns out when the dryer overheats, in which case the dryer will either not run at all or stop heating. The fuse is usually located on the vent duct, inside the dryer. A blown fuse will show no continuity when measured with a meter. Before replacing the fuse, make sure the blower wheel is not broken or clogged, and there is nothing blocking the venting.

Note: It is recommended by most dryer manufacturers to replace a hi-limit thermostat when replacing a thermal fuse.

3. Igniter
Igniter may burn out or break. Replace the igniter if found defective.

Note: Igniters are very fragile and break easily. It is recommended to handle the igniter only touching the ceramic part of it (usually white in color).

4. Flame sensor (or radiant heat sensor)
Replace the sensor (located near the igniter) if found defective.

You should test the coils to be sure. you cant tell by looking. this sounds like defective coils and, you do have a thermal fuse.

The coil opens and closes the valves. if these components are defective, it will cause your symptoms.

I have a Kenmore gas dryer model 110.77670400. The ignitor lights, but gas valve doesn't open. I tested thermal switches in back for continuity and all checked good. Flame sensor is good and I replaced...

Hi,

Thank you for contacting fixya.com.

If one or more of the coils are defective, the valve doesn't open and the gas cannot ignite. Because it's often difficult to properly test the coils, it's usually best to replace both (all) of them at the same time. However unplug your Kenmore gas dryer from its electrical outlet. Make sure that all electricity has been disconnected from your dryer.

Turn off the gas valve that supplies gas to your Kenmore gas dryer. Remove the gas flex line at the shut-off valve using an adjustable wrench.

Remove your dryer's back panel. Take out the screws on the back of the dryer and the panel will come free. Set the panel and screws aside until you are ready to replace them.

Locate the thermal fuse between the dryer's blower housing and exhaust. The thermal fuse looks like a white plastic strip with two connected wires.

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.
