Question about Protron PD-007 DVD Player

Vertical Hold I bought a universal remote and as I was trying to program it, it messed up the vertical hold.  I can't stop the picture from flipping -- and it's rather fast too -- too fast to read what's on the screen.  How do I reset the vertical hold?

The picture divedes into two vertically and it is coming out in black and white. What do I do?

I just connect the cords or cables at the back that is yellow to yellow into the tv set (which is for video) thw white to white and red to red (for audio). There is sound thre is video (picture) but in black and white, and divides into two vertically.

I have the exact same problem: I bought a universal remote and as I was trying to program it, it messed up the vertical hold. I can't stop the picture from flipping -- and it's rather fast too -- too fast to read what's on the screen. Also, my universal remote and the dvd player are the same brand. I contacted the company and they have no clue. Does anyone know what I can do

If you have a universal remote keep the dvd player on. Try to reset your universal remote by using a code search button by using dvd option and it should straigten it out. It did mine.

Before trying anything else try resetting the TV to the factory specs.
To do this simply turn the TV on using the power button on the TV while holding the reset button on the remote. While you are still holding the reset button the TV should turn itself off then back on again.

Picture is rolling and we can't find a vert. hold adjustment. The original remote has been lost so we are using a universal remote.

there should be a control on thr rear of the tv set that does the vertical, and one for the horizontal holds. Sounds like it has been accidently knocked when doing house work!

DVD picture rolls vertically

Somehow the TV setting on the DVD player was set to PALS so we changed it to the proper setting.

Vertical flipping

I bet you put it into PAL mode, the European standard. I believe that you can reset to factory default using the menu and it should be okay. If you cannot read and navigate the menu tree, then I think that if you hold the power button on after you start up, it will reset itself. I have not checked the doc to make sure of the last.
You can also get display problems if you pick the Y/R/G component setting in the menu. It is designed for connecting to a high definition using 3 different cables, one for each color. It only supplies vertical on one of those cables, and the TV just doesn't know what to do without the vertical blank signal from 'somewhere'.
Again, a menu setting.

Rolling screen

This may be a vertical hold control problem I'm not sure where the Vert. Hold potentiometer is on the mainboard. I would see if you can find someone who can locate it and adjust it.

Picture flipping

The P52940 uses the 195 series chassis. The vert/hgt control is for vertical height. It adjusts the size of the picture from top to bottom. If your picture is flipping, it most likely means that something is wrong in the vertical circuits. I have seen fluid leak out of one of the CRTs and drip down on the vertical output IC, causeing the picture to go crazy vertically. The set should be serviced by a qualified tech experienced in the RCA 195 chassis.
