You can't reset the printer for a defective cartridge, you either need a new chip or a chip ressetter to reset the cartridge.

I tried pressing the OK button for 6 seconds, while holding it press the red stop button and hold it until the LCD refreshes.

press the Stop/Reset button for at least 5 seconds with the ink cartridge installed. Then printing can continue under the ink out condition.Canon do not like you to use refills and generic carts so the function for detecting the remaining ink level will be disabled

The cartridges are under the scanner and stay off to the right side of the unit except when printing or when you lift the scanner unit cover while the unit on. If the cartridges returns to the right, close the scanner unit cover and then reopen it. If the cartridge carrier doesn't move, make sure that the unit is turned on.
The black ink goes on the right side.

(if the cartridge holder doesn't move when the unit is on, check that nothing is blocking the path.)
