Firstly try to get to help and Support to do a System Restore to a point earlier than the time you tried to reset the hard drive.  If that fails THEN,

Get to a Sony vendor nearest to you and ask them to sell you the systems cds for your laptop.  If it is running on Windows XP or whatever, get the operating systems disks and do a system recovery procedure by placing the cds into your computer then follow the instructions on the screen.

I hope to hear from a happy you that your computer is running again.  Please try to get Adaware, Malaware and Spyware Software to clean your computer because it might have been highjacked by these parasites

Restoring an HP computer to factory settings requires that you do a system recovery.
There are two types of recovery for HP computers: destructive and non-destructive.

Destructive recovery will reformat your hard drive, destroying all data and reinstalling the operating system and additional software according to the factory configuration.

Non-destructive, or "system," recovery will repair your Windows installation, replacing any damaged or missing system files and restoring the registry to the factory setting.

Non-destructive recovery is the best option if you are unable to back up your user data before running system recovery.Restoring with CDs

Back up all crucial user files if you are able to do so.
If your computer will not burn CDs, use flash drives of 4GB or higher to store your data.

Alternatively, you can use your network to transfer files.
You can then back up your data to CDs at your leisure.

Detach peripheral devices such as removable media drives, USB drives and your printer before recovering.

Also remove any additional hard drives by disconnecting the cable from the back of the computer.
Leave your monitor, mouse and keyboard attached to the computer.

Shut down your computer.
Place the first recovery CD in the CD drive.

If your recovery files are written on a partition, you may be able to select system recovery from the splash screen and your computer starts.
Select the recovery option you would like to use.
To perform a destructive recovery, click the "Advanced" menu option.

Select "Destructive Recovery" and click "Next."
To perform a non-destructive, or system, recovery, click "Next" from the opening screen.
Watch the computer while it is recovering to the factory settings.
Watch for any errors, as the computer will wait indefinitely for a response from you, slowing down recovery time.

Also, you may need to insert additional recovery CDs as the recovery program requests them. Restoring With Recovery Manager

Click the Windows "Start" menu, type "Recovery" in the Search field and press "Enter."
Click "Advanced Options," choose "System Recovery" and select "Next."
If you are prompted to use Microsoft's recovery program, select "No."
Choose the option to back up your files, if you haven't done it already.
Once that is complete, choose "Next" to begin reformatting the drive and returning the system to factory settings. http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-Systems-and/How-do-I-RESTORE-my-system-to-the-original-factory-settings/td-p/50113

Factory restore

Dell Dimension computers have a built-in PC restore system that allows you to quickly restore the PC to its original factory settings.
The PC restore is located in a hidden partition of the PC's hard drive and contains a copy of the computer's original factory installed software.
There are two different ways to restore the Dimension's settings depending on which operating system your computer is running.

Windows XP

Disconnect all peripheral equipment that is attached to your computer such as printer, scanner, external hard drive and memory sticks.
Restart the computer.
After the Dell screen appears on the monitor, hold down the "Ctrl" key and press the "F11" key.
If the Windows XP screen appears before you can finish this step, wait for the computer to finish rebooting and restart the computer again.

Highlight "Restore" in the Dell PC Restore window by using the tab button.
Hit "Enter."

Highlight "Confirm" in the restore warning box by using the tab button.
Hit "Enter."
This will start the system restore process.
Do not attempt to turn off the computer during this process or vital system files may be damages and you will not be able to restart your computer.

Click "Finish" in the box that notifies you that the restoration has been successful.

Hit "Enter" to restart the computer.
The computer has been restored to the original factory settings.

Windows Vista

Disconnect all peripheral equipment that is attached to your computer such as printer, scanner, external hard drive and memory sticks.

Restart the computer.
After the Dell screen appears on the monitor, press the "F8" key.
If the Windows Vista screen appears before you can finish this step, wait for the computer to finish rebooting and restart the computer again.

Highlight "Repair Your Computer" by using the down arrow key in the Advanced Boot window.
Hit the "Enter" key.

Click "Next" after selecting a language. Log into the computer as an administrator.
"OK." Choose "Dell Factory Restore."
Click "Next."

Check "Yes" next to the reformat the hard drive and restore factory settings option.
Click "Next" to start the restoration process.
Do not attempt to turn off the computer during this process or vital system files may be damages and you will not be able to restart your computer.

Click "Finish" in the box that notifies you that the restoration has been successful.
The computer will automatically restart itself to its original factory settings.

Reset acer

The Acer Aspire One is a netbook, not a laptop.
A netbook is a smaller, scaled-down version of a laptop. It does not have the memory capacity or graphics of a regular laptop.
It also lacks a CD drive, which means you cannot restore the Acer Aspire One with restore discs. Instead, the netbook has a built-in factory restore feature.
You can reset the Acer Aspire One to factory settings just using your keyboard.
Only restore your netbook to factory settings if you cannot fix the problem any other way.
Save any files or folders on your Acer Aspire One with flash drives.
Drag and drop files onto the icon of your flash drive.
Go to Start > Restart to reboot your netbook.

Hold down Alt and F10 when you see the Acer logo on the screen.
The recovery menu will load.
Hit Enter and then Next to see your recovery options.
Choose Factory Restore to set your netbook back to factory settings.
Follow the instructions on the screen.
Choose your time zone and language when the customization menu appears.
Reboot the netbook when you are prompted.
Restore your saved files from the flash drive.
or
When a vital file becomes corrupted, it might be necessary to restore a computer to its original factory settings.
This process also cleans up the hard drive and removes old programs that can make a computer slow and unresponsive.
But, because restoration wipes away all files you have installed or created, it should be a last-ditch effort in trying to repair a computer.
If you have reached this point with your Acer laptop or desktop, the manufacturer provides a utility to restore the factory settings.

Open the Windows Start menu by clicking on the icon in the lower left corner of your desktop.
Click All Programs, then the Acer folder.

Select Acer eRecovery Management to open the utility.
If a Windows prompt asks for permission to run the program, click Yes.

Click the Restore button in the pane on the left side of the program window.
Click Completely Restore System to Factory Defaults.
Select the Yes option in the dialog box that asks you to confirm the action, and click Start.
Click OK in the second confirmation dialog box to restart the computer.
Click Next in the warning window that appears after the computer reboots.
This confirms that you realize restoring the computer deletes any data stored on your hard drive.

Click Next again in the Restore Destination window, and click OK in the popup that gives you one last warning about deleting your data.
The restoration process will begin.

Click OK when the utility lets you know that the restoration is complete.
The computer will restart, and Windows will finish the recovery process.

Need to reset to factory defaults

Restart your computer. Press F9 key immediately when the ASUS logo appears. This will start the recovery procedure, including the installation of all the drivers and utilities. Follow the instructions. Your computer will be restored to the factory settings.
    1. Recover windows to first partition only. this option will delete only the first partition, allowing you to keep other partitions, and create a new system partition as drive "c". 2. Recover windows to entire HD. This option will delete all partitions from your hard disk drive and create a new system partition as drive "C". 3. Recover windows to entire HD with 2 partition. This option will delete all partitions from your hard drive and create two new partitions "C" (60%) and "D" (40%).

Usually, the brand new ASUS notebook computer hard disk is with 2 partitions. So, it is suggested that you select “3. Recover windows to entire HD with 2 partitions”.

    Thanks for using Fixya

Put your windows xp disc in the drive and boot up from it, run windows repair or failing that reinstall on the upgrade option to keep your files and programs.
If that fails, you will have to do a full instal.

I cant get factory settings on my computer My hard drive wont work properly Ihavent got any memory.Computer very slow Please explain in laymans terms Obliged

    1. Factory settings on computer.
There really isn't "factory settings" to reset. Well it isn't simple as that. There is the BIOS which can be reset to "default settings" for the BIOS. Also most brand name computers come with a recovery feature, in which you can recovery/restore the computer back to original factory defaults with original software all installed. Therefore the computer's operating system (usually windows) will be running with the programs like it would run if you were to buy the same new laptop.

    2. Hard drive won't work properly.
You can give the hard drive a test using the hard drive's company's hard drive testing software which can be download from their site. The software would test the hard drive to make sure nothing physical is wrong and the hard drive is functioning like normal.

    3. Haven't got any memory. Computer very slow.
You can always buy more memory. If windows says it's running out of memory. That means there is too many software running in the background.

Comment if you want more explained.
