Hard Drive Crash - how do I disassemble my PCMP-30 to replace it?

Unfortunately Sharp seems to have locked up the internal hard drive on my ACTIUS PCMP-30 like a vault.  I want to replace it myself.  Any clue on the steps I need to take to get at the hard drive, replace it, and reassemble my PC?

After using the setup DVD the windows boot screen appears with the green bar travelling across the bar then it just freezes up. Tried to crash out and cannot, tried to change every option on the reload and...

If the old hard drive failed where the computer locked up I would suspect problems with the computer. It is possible that the new hard drive has issues. As far as compatibility, there are very few problems with hard drives, as this is all but unheard of. What keeps this from happening is the plugs are different on different hard drive interfaces, so bottom line is it wont let you plug in the wrong type of drive, as the plug wont fit. I would suggest you go into the setup program, and choose the default settings for the hardware. This can solve lots of problems. Now if the computer was crashing with the old hard drive you could have computer problems. One of the most common is dust and lint inside blocking the airflow to the computers processor. It is a good idea to have your laptop professionally cleaned internally if it is locking up, for no apparent cause, I would say that 80% of the time this is the only problem when a laptop is locking up. You wouldn't believe the build up these get inside. Good luck with it.

My lacie hard drive is not recognized by my laptop when I plug it in and turn it on. What is my next step?

Change the cable between the computer and the external drive.

Disassemble the external casing, and connect the "internal" hard-drive as a "slave" hard-drive in a desktop computer, to see if the hard-drive is OK.

Exercise the warranty, to get a replacement.

Removing files from a dead lap top

If the computer is dead the only way to recover the files would be to remove the hdd & install it as a secondary hdd in another system in order to copy the files. After you are sure all your data is copied you could then either reformatt & keep as a storage drive in other system or remove. You'll need the proper cables as most laptop hdd's just slide into a built in port on the laptop's mb. Hope this helps.

Do you know how to flash the BIOS? This could trigger it. Are you sure that it can accept the hard drive. Does the hard drive have jumpers on it? This should be on master if it does have one. Although not common on laptop hard drives it could have one.

Sharp actius mp30 hard drive replacement?

It is a standard 2.5" IDE laptop drive. You have to dis-assemble to mother board. Easy to do if you are comfortable with internals. You have to remove a million screws to get case apart. All visible on bottom, also internal pc card next to memory card has 2 screws. Don't forget back side hinge screws and edge screws on upper part of lower shell visible in back and when dvd/cd is pulled (2 bottom screws hold player in. The shell come apart easily little force no tricky pressure or lock taps. Where it hinges on back top side next to LCD screen lift gently straight up this is where it is most resistant. A few ribbon cables and 2 wire cables to disconnect. After lower case top is off a few screws holding mother board (arrows) needs to be removed to lift motherboard. Drive is connected to mother board by ribbon cable lift pry gently up to release it. Drive is held in by 4 screws. Good luck. If you do not want to do this just get a 2.5" usb drive. You can buy the drives and external case or by already made ones e.g. WD passport.

BTW I am looking for an actius mp-30 casing, mine has damage.

If you have any questions post to contact me
