This machine is running Unix, specifically some flavor of HP-UX. How to connect to it really depends on how much it is locked down for security. Serial terminal session, telnet, and ssh are all options.

The easiest thing is to hook up a standard vga display, keyboard, and mouse and connect this way. If you don't have a root login and password you will be very limited in what you can do though.

How do I fix? Designjet HP9000 error 1701

System Error 1700: Servo Motor Error

The Paper-Axis or the Scan-Axis Motor moves the Carriage, but the input from the Linear Encoder Sensor does not change
The easy thing to do is to check the "encoder strip". It's a metal strip about 1/4" high. It runs right to left behind the carriage assembly. Shine a flashlight on it and see if it looks damaged. If its dirty clean it with a slightly damp cloth(water or alcohol will work). Do it with power off. Make sure the carriage moves freely from one end to the other. If the carriage is binding or won't move at all, check the carriage belt for tears or shredding. If you can't SEE anything wrong it probably is the time to call in a trained tech.
The E0800 is a power supply error. You'll need a tech for that too.

I have got Easycap 2.0 and a video player connected to my laptop computer running Windows Vista. However all I see in the window where the video output is supposed to be is my webcam. I am guessing it has...

you have to go into hardware device manager driver menu in the control panel and find your internal laptop webcam in the list and temporarailly disable it. (dont click uninstall just disable) Then the ezcap usb camera input will work. I did this on HP9000 series laptop with internal camera and vista. When you done using the usb cam input go back to the hardware device manager and enable your internal cam again.

good luck

How do i stop banding on hp9000 -- i print a job of 25' long first 8' or so print passable - little banding - so i walk away for about 10 mins or so - several feet comes out thick banding lines --ex. my...

The reason for banding on the long panels (especially with solid coverage) is the high content of dissolved air in the ink. Dissolved air causes a gradual nozzle drop-out that cannot be stopped unless you do the head cleaning in the middle of the print. Unfortunately you cannot force HP9000 to do the automatic head cleaning in the middle, it can do it only at the end. Manual head cleaning is possible but it takes such a long time that it shows as stripe on a print, and the productivity suffers. Even the OEM HP ink is full of air inside. Our company did a lot of research in this area and we came up with a special ink packaging technique that ensures the ink is 100% free of air. People who tried printing with our ink can easily print 50-foot panels without any nozzle drop-outs or color shift. If you want more info please call us at 1-905-820-8833, We also produce portable print head recovery devices and solutions for solvent printer recovery after long periods of inactivity.

Hp9000 screen won't light

The screen has one or two lamps on its sides. These lamps reqire high voltage power (several hundred volts) that is supplied by the part called "HV inverter" which is usually mounted at the bottom of the LCD panel. When the inverter dies - your screen goes black, though you can (very bad) still see the picture lighting your screen at certain angle.
As a test that your video card is alive and the driver is ok - connect the external monitor. If the picture is ok - I bet it's invertor that died.
So check your warranty plan and if there is no way to get it done by specialists for free - consider either to pay several hundreds for "qualified repair in the workshop" or to spent $25 for inverter on Ebay and spent an hour with a screwdriver to replace it.
