If this is for a 3100 like you have it posted in, go in the system folder after you put in the address where you want to go. in the system folder/tab there is a tab called simulation. go in the and press simulate.

Why would one turn " GPS Simulator" on or off ? What does this do for me?

hi, you didnt mention what model gps you have, but most gps simulation do the same thing. if you have the simulation activated (some models are on by default, others are off by default) once you put in an address for the gps to guide you, the gps (if in simulation mode) will show you the coarse you will be taken, before you start out.

so if your in NY and plot a coarse for California, it will show you moving along the plotted coarse...thats going to take quite a while to view since the simulation will move along at what ever the posted speed limit is along the route, so its kinda like watching grass grow unless it doesn't take much to amuse the person watching the simulation. it is quite handy in that it allows you to view turns and intersections ect ect ect before you ever get to them.

hope this makes sense...let me know if i need to explain it better, but if you turn on the simulation mode then enter an address, you'll see what i mean.

It guesses the street and wont let me put in the correct one

This will happen with any GPS device, if the street isn't in the unit's database. If, for example, "Alpine Street" was built after your unit came out, your unit might guess "Alamo Drive" after you enter "AL", and wouldn't let you type the "P" unless it knows of another street that starts with "ALP".

The signals sent by the GPS satellites enable the unit to determine your latitude/longitude location, but the maps and software to translate the location to a street address has to be programmed into the unit ahead of time.

There may be an update available for your GPS unit, but you would need to pay for it (and probably install it by connecting to a computer and using a CD/DVD). Depending on the price, it may be a better choice to buy a newer unit, which probably has more features, etc.

Street listings in most GPS units are pretty good, but some streets (e.g., short private roads) might not be in the database for your unit, no matter how new it is. Really cheap units typically won't have the best data- that's the main "cost" in the price, and the reason that updates often cost nearly as much as a new unit.

Wrong street number

The maps are purchased from the post office. The post office locally will many times call your address other than the legal address for various and sundry reasons.
Please check with your local officials and you will see what your legal address is. I found this out working for the Census. 1b8d9a5.jpg

The "Origional" software will not allow you to input a street address. The newer N30 software will input street addresses, as well many more POI's, as well as via directions. I have the original software, plus the newer N30 software. Let me know if I can help! Joe

Garmin nuvi 780-when recharging the battery should the user know when it is complete and how long should it take?

Hello skatecat,

The Garmin Nuvi 780 GPS receiver should take about four hours to fully charge. You can review the charge status by checking the battery icon in the top corner of the GPS's menu page.

GPS Accuracy

I had a similar problem. It was that the street addressing was wrong. Our street for example only physically goes to 199. But the software shows it goes to 299. This offsets all the address on the street, the farther I go the worse it gets!

Wrong directions

I believe the problem is the street address. If your address is an even number, the the unit believes the house is on the right in most instances.
