You have a virus which has wiped out some of your boot sector files.

If you are running XP and cannot get back into Safe Mode then you have no option other than to re-install the operating system .

One hope is that someone you know has a copy of the Winternals ERD Commander software which will allow you to get back onto the hard drive

I would take the hard drive out and install it in another machine to retrieve any files you feel are important

Make sure you have the CD with the operating sytem on it and the keycodes plus any drivers needed for the motherboard

My dell precision 390 keeps freezing

Please restart the computer and while it is booting enter into safe mode by pressing f8 repeatedly. It will eventually it will ask you to enter safe mode. Enter safe mode option(not with networking or anything else) log back in. See if the computer freezes at this point. If it does not freeze after being on for an extended period it is more then likely a bad windows install or a virus. If it does the same thing we could be talking hard ware issues.

When I turn on my emachines t3265 desktop computer, it freezes at the logo, and does not proceed to Windows so I can log on. What is the likely problem, and how can I fix it?

Turn it on.
Hit the ESCAPE (or TAB) key to replace that colourful logo with the technical details of the computer's POST (Power On Self Test) messages. Look for any messages, such as "unable to boot from disk drive" or "disk-drive not detected". Also, remove any CD/DVD media from the CD/DVD drive. Also, remove any 3.5-inch diskette, and disconnect any USB memory-sticks BEFORE you turn it on.

It only means that windows.ini was not successfully installed. You need to reinstall the operating system again or else your computer will be stuck on safe mode.

I cant seem to get into safe mode on my comp

When you first turn the computer on Keep tapping F8 if that doesnt work Try F5.
If you can get into Windows then you can make the computer boot into Safe mode next time you start it up using MSConfig.
If you have XP you will need to Start > Run > msconfig.exe Windows Vista / 7, Start > (Type in the start search box under All Programs) msconfig, you will notice it come up and the top of the box > Click on it and when prompted by UAC click Continue / Yes.
Now that you are in MSConfig under the general tap select Diagnostic Startup, press apply then OK, you will not be prompted to restart the computer. Restart and it will put you into Safe Mode.

monitor going to sleep when computer gets turned on means there is no video signal getting to it from motherboard. There are few reason for this. First thing to do is to reseat cables for monitor which is usually black cable with blue wide ends and it has 2 screws the can be used to fasten it to tower or monitor it self. just remove then cable and out back in. if this does not work it is possible that drivers are corrupted or video adapter is bad. to find out is it just bad drivers you would need to boot in to safe mode which only loads simple drivers. to boot to safe mode shut down your pc and when you push the power button to turn it on keep on tapping F8 key located at the top of keyboard. dont just press it and hold it pressed but keep on pressing and releasing. you need to keep on doing this until a black screen comes up with white writing and it will say advanced start up menu. once you get to this screen you need to choose safe mode with networking just so you can go online to hp support site and download new video drivers which are under support and download. once you choose safe mode with networking computer will start loading files and after few minutes it will bring choose account to log in. make sure to choose administrator if it displays and if not just choose your usual log in. if this works you now know it is just corrupted video drivers and just need to go to hp site and download new ones. another way to fix this kinda problem is to do system recovery to a date you know monitor used to work. to do system restore you would click on start and then choose all programs and select accessories, system tools and then system restore. you will choose restore computer to an earlier date or time and just choose a date from the calendar that you know computer used to work fine. all this would still be done from safe mode. if you are unable to get to safe mode this would mean you video card is bad and needs to be replaced. 90% computers have their video cars soldered on mother board so this means cant be replaced so easier way to fix this is to just add another video card that can be purchased in any pc store. you dont need anything fancy just a vista compatable. if you have a warranty i would have a pc repair person do this for you and even if you dont you can talk to geek squad and tell them to give you a compatible video card and install it for you. Hope this helps. Any other questions email me at
