Remote control won't work just flashes rc:1 on the display

The remote is nothing more than a device to change the contents display face. The code for the unit is embedded into the unit behind it, so the old code will work. It will not even notice you changed the remote control. If you bought a remote control for a different Kenwood audio, then it is a lottery. You can program a bespoke remote, they are set to one device, or a range of devices sharing the same code.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. Check it battery contacts, inside its battery compartment for any rust or dust accumulated, which prevents the electrical contacts. If all are found OK, you remote control need cleaning. Try to check the remote Model matches the Receiver's model number. If it does not, then try to get Universal Remote Controller

I came across this looking for a similar solution for my Samsung TV, and I found the solution on ehow.com. Apparently after you program the remote for your TV you have to hold mute and select again until it flashes twice then put in 960 to make the remote control TV input too. Note you're remote should be in TV mode while you do this. It seems silly that the DirectTV guy wouldn't do this when programming the remote.

There is an easy way to setup this remote controllerl(RC). It called "Automatic Code Searching" which means that you don't have to even find the code. The controller will searching it for you. Just do the following steppes.

1. Turn on the "Device" to be remotely controlled, e.g. TV, VCR.

2. Point the RC right to the "Device" .

3. Press a device button on the RC represent the "Device", e.g. TV, VCR, DVD etc. You can see the indicator lid flash once.

4. Press the SET and than the POWER button on the RC. hold both buttons for 2 seconds or more, you will see the red lid on. then release both buttons simutenously. after that the indicator lid will be flashing, means the searching started.

5. Keep pointing the RC to the "Device" until it is shut down by the RC, Press any button in 1.5 second to finish the setting.

You can try the RC now. It should work. My one is working.
