First thing first, unplug the unit from the wall, make sure it will not turn on with switch.get a stick and a strong flash light, look into the unit. something is stopping the blade from turning.

On the bottom of the disposal is a place for an allen wrench. Take and turn the unit with the allen wrench to break it loose. It sounds as if has something sticking the blades.

Thier is an Allen key hole at the very bottom and center of the badger. Try using that with an Allen key. And if it leaks your from where your wires are coming out of your seal is probably bad. Means new badger

I have a badger 1, 1/3 horsepower insinkerator. Because the sink was draining slowly, I used the hexagonal wrench attached to the machine, and turned it in the space provided on the bottom of the machine....

Hi Mary,
You have two separate problems there...the second one was probably caused by the first one...

The garbage disposal was running hard and pulled more current then it should have...this caused the wall switch to go bad by welding the contacts together...now the wall switch will no longer work properly.

So here is what you have...
The disposal is once again working properly...you can plug it in and unplug it to operate it...

However, now, you will need to get an electrician or a friend that can change the wall switch for you...unless you are handy with electric....

Change the wall switch and everything will be back to normal again!!!

I turned on the wall swithch. there is a buzzing noise but no movement. blades move freely when i hand turn them. i have unpluged the unit from the wall, still no movement

I think you are talking about a disposal. Since the blades move freely and you have actually unplugged it from the wall, feel all around the bottom of it for a reset button. Even if you have removed power, if this button clicks when you push it, it was tripped. Otherwise, my disposal just did the same thing. The type I have only last for 2 years. Mine buzzes and thats all. The motor has gone out. I will have to replace mine. You may as well.

Jammed disposal (in sink erator) i believe a nail was lodged there. it came out but it still doesn't work. Had a allens wrench and hit red button and it still doesn't work

My unit was not spinning, seemed like no power after it would just sit there and make that humming noise. Used the wrench to loosen up (if any) debris. I didn't realize the little red reset switch on the bottom was not popping out all the way. After the wrench, I then depressed the red button and it worked fine. I would check to make sure your switch is out all the way before trying other solutions.
