Question about ASUS K8V-MX Motherboard
I bought a new ASUS AV8-MX motherboard to replace a bad AV8-MX motherboard. I installed a socket 939 AMD 3800+ in the motherboard. The bios recognizes the cpu, memory, dvd and floppy. However, after I set the 1st boot device to the HD or to the DVD with a bootable copy of XP, the unit will not boot. It starts coming up and after detecting the hardware, etc., it just stops with a blank screen and the - flashing at the top left. It never says "Press any key to boot from CD." or if I set the HD as the 1str device, it does the same. According to the ASUS site, version 0210 should work with my chip. This board has bios version 0405.
The first thing is to make sure that your CD/DVD drive has the windows disk in it. Also check drive C which is where the windows will be installed. It may require that it is hard formated. Hard formatted means "format x /u" [format-space-drive to be formatted-space-right slash-u]. This will place the drive for "windows xp sp2", all of it, to one pass of zeroes. So, once we have a clean drive C and the installation disc is inserted into the CD/DVD drive, you may proceed to install. You will need to find "install" or "setup" and start it on he "RUN" mode.
