I have the same chainsaw, but with a burned out motor. The gear drive appears to be in great shape. I'd like to get rid of the whole chainsaw for parts if possible. Let me know if you're interested or have already found a replacement.

The main drive gear is slipping. This is caused by etiher worn teeth or worn bearings. If you pass the model number I can show you a diagram of where to look and what part or parts that have most likely failed. The drive gear is the weakest link but the motor can be shifting in the housing away from the drive gear. It only takes a bit less than 1/8 inch side play. The model number will be similar to this 358.341160

Most likely it is item 26 of this diagram:

This example is for model 358.381160

In the wheel gear adjuster for chain does not thighen chain when turning wheel like little gears are not matching up, what would be wrong?

The three hundred series saws have side adjust consisting of a small assembly, if the gears are worn it will require replacment, the hobby saw ( 235/236/240 ) had a plastic gear on the early models in the side cover, this has now been replaced with a metal gear, the semi pro saw has the assembly in the crankcase, this will require removing the clutch sprocket and bar plate to gain acsess to it.

Chain stops when it touchs log

A gas engined saw has a clutch that can slip if overly oiled internally, but electric saws don't use a clutch. Most however, have a safety disconnect to the drive sprocket that shears or otherwise removes power to the chain while the motor runs. The worst problem can be a broken gear within the gearbox and requires dis-assembly to discover. Many modern saws use plastic gears in place of metal ones and are prone to failure. The fact that the chain turns when not under load would seem to eliminate the gearbox, but don't discount that until proven. Hope this helps!

Chain comes off mcculloch electramac em250 chain saw

Adjust the chain until you can pull on it and it will come away from the bar but will not hang from the bar. If that does not solve your problem then the chain or drive gear is worn out. If the oiler is not working it is for sure worn out.
