Sound but no picture

Recently my picture went completly, but I still had sound. Contacted Samsung but no help at all - out of warrenty! Still - I ordered another bulb. In the meantime I switched the TV on and got both sound & a picture for most of the day. In the evening the picture simply went. Replaced the bulb - still no picture so bulb problem ruled out.

Any ideas - I've cleaned up any dust I could find.

Besides having no picture but do have sound when I try to turn the TV off with the remote or front panel nothing happens and I have to unplug from the wall. This same thing happened after I replaced the bulb and after a while the notice the bulb is bad comes on. I was told by Samsung to call around to find someone to repair it. Please help before I take a bat to it.

i have same problem picture would turn off but still had sound. checked the bulb was still working it was then thought it might be overheating problem. so i took off back panel and gave it a clean up but same thing kept happening so i took back panel off again but left it off to get more air into it. i had to blu tak cut off switch in place. this seemed to solve problem but after about 6 hours running it went again had to switch off with the remote wait 2 mins turn it back on i still have problem but lasts much longer before the pictures turns off again. i can see fan turns but wondering if its turning fast enough to get right amount of air flow.

There are several things that need to take place for the lamp to turn on. first the color wheel needs to turn on ( if you can hear a whinning noise then this is fine) next the tv will send a signal to the lamp ballast to turn on, and the ballast needs the 130v dc supply from the power board ( simoly remove the lamp and reinstall the lamp door, turn tv on, and if you hear an arcing noise from the ballast you know this is fine too. the board that controls all of this is the dmd board. so if the color wheel works, ballast starts then i would replace the dmd board....

i forgot that samsung has had issues with the lamp door switch. simply solder all three pins together on the switch to bypass this function. try this before the above comment

I have the same problem. It started once or twice a day then more and more More likely DMD board overheats and develops a contact or thermal protection issue shuting down the picture projection.Replacind the lamp or color wheel will not help . For that you will have a error code blinking at the front power button. This problem gives no error code ,picture just dissapears while you still can see the light working if you just look at the back of the tv.and will have sound. You can replace the board ,easy to do but the new board is expensive ,around $ 500 or put a small fan from the outside blowing inside. The best is a small square shape the one you can remove from computers and just hang to the left side of the grill to blow in air, Do not try to blow in air by the lamp door!,that's an exaust area for the lamp fan!.Keeping cooler the tv will not shut down the picture that often That's how I did .I Paid $ 2500 for tis Samsung HL-r 5067w,replaced the wheel and lamp ,with no results,,next will be to replace the whole tv as with $900 can get a new one that will be anything but Samsung DLP,why would spend other $500 for DMD board? to last an other 2.5 years? The whole tv is a technical screw up Samsung knows that the light bulb overheats the tv's light engine creating expansion, contact ,ect problems,,inside fans are not big enough to handle the heat, bigger fans would be too loud, that's why come out with LED light projector,no heat there, but I had enough of Samsung

What do you think is wrong with my television, it has sound but no picture. How can I fix the problem?

Hi there
I would go to menu on the remote , from there to picture go down the list, if you do not find anything there to help you. Go to Support and to the E manual .

Samsung HL-85887W (HL556887WXLXAA). TV picture is dimming and loud hum from lamp area. This TV went through 2 lamps during warrenty period. I understand there are several lamp numbers and would like to...

You need a color wheel--common on these sets. Get a real phillips bulb and you should be set for awhile. The cheap generic bulbs are fine to get you through a few MONTHS....but NOT much longer. . An E22H-120/132 watt lamp is correct--and if you can replace just the bulb-(NOT hard at all to do) it will save you a LOT of money.

if this "whirring" sound was making a vibration on the TV, there is a good chance that the one that needs to be replaced is the color wheel. When the color wheel fails it also triggers the signal for replacing the lamp. This is another common issue with Samsung DLP's.

Sound but no picture is it the picture tube or just another problem

most likely will not be the tubes mate, if the tubes go then you just get a big mix of red green and blue colours in the screen - sound but no picture is more likely to be the starter unit on the flat screen.
flat screens have a starter unit - mine went on a samsung but under warrenty
