Wheel is not setting up to type correctly

Typing wheel is not setting up to type correctly. Had to adjust correction tape, it became stuck on the plastic piece behind it. Removed ribbon to do this. Place ribbon back on and then it is not typing the proper letters. Thanks for your help!!

I installed new correction tape, but there's too much play in it. It keeps unravelling. I have no idea how to tighten it up. When I turn the take-up spool, it just unravels it more without tightening...

Verify that you have installed the proper correction tape. The types of tape that can be used with this system are: Item 1030 - Correctable Film Ribbon, 1230 - Correctable Film Ribbon 2pack, 1031 - Multi Strike Ribbon, 1032 - Nylon Ribbon, 3010 - Lift-off correction tapes (to be used with 1030 and 1230 ribbons), 4010 Cover-up Correction tape (to be used with 1031 and 1032 ribbons).
Make sure that the correction tape is installed properly. Pass the tape through the left guide, behind the ribbon guide and out through the right guide. The rough side of the tape should face the platen. Attach the feeder spool to the pin on the left. Attach the take up spool to the pin on the right. Turn the take up spool counter clockwise until a small amount of tape has wound around it. Replace the cassette ribbon and close the case cover. Press [CODE] + [RESET] to move the carrier to the previous position.

How to change the correction tape

There are two levers on the right side of the carrier for the typewriter and correction ribbon. The little red lever close to the front right corner is to release the typing ribbon. the larger grey lever on the right end of the ribbon mounting bracket releases the correction tape. Pull it to the front, and it will release the correction tape. Look welll to see how the ribbon is threaded through the spindles and behind the guides next to the platten roller, before you take the old correction roll off.

NOTE: When changing either typing or correction ribbon, you need to know that only one of the levers mentioned will release at a time. If you have released one, you will have to snap it back into working position and pull the other lever to release it. THEY absolutely will not both release at the same time.

New ribbon and can't get it to type

did you make sure that the end pieces are engaged into the brackets in the part facing you. Also if the correction tape is not loaded onto the ribbon prior to installing it, it will do that too.

Hope this helps, Denise

When I'm typing it's not typing the correct letters they look Greek or something, I've tried holding down the reset and code button at the same time to make the wheel spin and it's still not working

Not seeing this typewriter is hard to troubleshoot.
First, if the black platen roller has many indentations due to a lot of use, these platen has to be dressed.
To dress it, this means it has to be removed and buffed. To do this one needs a "Wet-Dry" sand paper, "Fine Grit" 320 or 400. Wet the paper, and sand it like a piece of board. You may not get all the indetations out but it will be much better.
Clean it with water only, and Dry.
Before inserting the roller check the plastic guide or metal if they have it, for gummy edges. The ribbon and correcting tape goes up and down and they rub against these edges. They have build up of gummy stuff, if you can clean it completley off, you will get much reliablilty on the typewriter. Less ribbon snagging.
Most people think the supplies are the issue, but in reality, most problems are the ribbons and correcting tapes are snaging on this card guide.
Other problems with ribbons not advacing can be competitive supplies, but not seeing the machine it is difficult to isolate the problem.
Mechanical linkages (binding or broken)in the ribbon assembley can cause these types of problems, ribbons not advancing.
Also, a circuit board can cause these types of problems irratict printing images. Not an easy problem to isolate.
These types of solutions need to be applied then see how the end result works out. If it does not correct the problem, then the next area has to be isolated, due to lack of information provided about the problem.
Good luck.

The correctional tape isn't popping up to white-out the errors. Instead the actual ink is typing where it should be correcting making the letters bold. I tried tightening the correctional ribbon and the...

Hello. I had a similar problem, and Upstatoes helped me. Mine started with striker stuck forward, and then went to working for a few days, but sticking forward again And it was caused by the spring not being in the right place. But the correction tape housing is pushed up and pulled down by the white, adjustable piece on the right side, that has the screw holding it into the adjustment place. If you take off the ink ribbon, push the carriage to middle, and turn on the typewriter, there will be a switch at the top left of the keyboard, on the underside, you will need to flick with your finger, one time, as the carriage moves to the left. This is the reference switch, and you will be tricking the typewriter into thinking it is now in the left side start position. After this, you can see the white adjuster piece on the right side of the carriage, and, as you type a letter, also see if it is holding down the correction tape housing. Then when you hit the erase key, see if the cam on the inside (looking through the small holes in the correction tape housing) turns and pushes up this housing? It may be the tab in the white adjuster is not inside the grove of this cam. Either way, at that point, you may be able to see if something else is not as it should be? My problem was the long side of the spring was not underneth the white adjuster. (I had been putting it under the housing, and it was not helping ot push everything up like it should be.) Aparently this cam with the white adjuster tab in the groove holds everything down, easily, as you type, but has to have the spring help to push up when you use the earse key.

Correction tape problem IBM Selectric II

Take off the ribbon, just inside the rt. side frame of the printer is the mech. for L/O feeding. There is an arm that moves back and allows the feed to ****, that mech. is probably gummy, lube with some WD40 on both sides of the printer (the left side sets up correction lifting.
