Performing a Fault Reset 14 will reset your copier and will help to clear error codes. 1. Turn the power off. 2. Locate the Clear Button, which is grey in color, in the upper right corner above the green Start Button. 3. Locate the Auto Button the lower left corner of the Control Panel. 4. Turn the power back on. 5. Press the buttons in the following sequence, releasing each button after each time you press it: [Clear], [Auto], [Clear], [Auto]. Every light on the Control Panel should go out, and the error code should clear. 6. If the error code has not cleared, wait a few seconds then repeat Steps 1 through 5. 7. Program the copier as if you were going to make 14 copies. 8. Press the green [Start] button to store the reset code. The copier will return to the ready position. 9. Run a test copy.

Dark streak on copies

Drum, wiper, or fuse rolls. Pull out toner unit see if you can see those lines.on the drum.

I have used this tip numerous times with great success.
Remove the paper tray and take all the paper out of the tray. Now on the metal plate that springs up where the paper goes there are 2 fiber pads that are about an inch square. Spray these 2 pads with glass cleaner until they are wet. Wipe off the metal around the pads and re-install the paper tray with NO paper in the tray. Now tray and make a will of course get the "P" light. Just hit C to clear it and hit the print button again. Do this at least 4 or 5 times. What you are doing here is cleaning the feed rollers by having them turn against the pads with the cleaner on them. Next take out the tray, blot the pads somewhat dry and add paper to the tray, re-install the tray and try copying again.
Should feed paper now unless you have a mechanical issue.

My Xerox XC830 copies are dark and have lines but otherwise present the image. How can I make the background white again.? Thanks! Ron

You probably needs some servicing. Drum, developer and other parts have a life cycle and once it's exceeded you can start having copy quality issues. Unfortunately there is no easy fix.

Inside the copier on the rear side where the gears are you'll find the gear on the fixing roller is broken. You can call Sharp instead of Xerox because there are usually cheaper. The supplies are not interchangeable, but the parts are.

Currently own a 1988 Zerox XC830 copier, showing a L-4 error. What is this?

L4 is a main motor problem. When you remove the rear cover it is left of center about mid way down the machine.
There are 4 screws holding it in, one power cable and a ribbon cable.
Remove it and see if the gear is cracked. Or the motor itself has failed.
You can google a business called "the parts drop". Look them up and call, ask for Britt, he can get you a motor for a reasonable price.
