Question about Dell XPS 400 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Can't connect to one web page

Sometimes I can and sometimes I can't log in to If I can and try to navigate within it, I get taken back to the login page. This goes on 3-4 times until I quit. Contacted Caremark and they said it was either with my ISP which I called and they recommended contacting Dell. Have Windows XP with two user accounts (mine and husbands) and guest account. Can't connect in user account and in husband's I can. Is there some setting that is incorrect? I have been upgrading to IE7 which I did not like, reinstalled McAfee, and still the problem persists. I tried logging in from my son's computer at his house and there didn't seem to be a problem at all.

Tried all of your suggestions days ago and still the problem exists. Have been on the phone with Caremark, Comcast today who both deny it has anything to do with them. It is very frustrating. Thanks for any help.

Did you delete your temp internet files and cookies. This is done by going to control panel, Internet options, general tab, should say temp internet files about the a 1/3 the way down. Click on delete button and another window will pop up.
Delete everything, but history. Do you have an Adware or Spyware tracker on your computer? Try this and let me know.

Can't navigate to my facebook page, WHY?!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds likely that you've gotten an upgrade in your preferred browser. Without knowing any more than what you've said, you'll have to take some basic steps to diagnose. Can you get to the web at all? Pick a random site - can you get there? Can you type in the URL to your face book page and log in? You may also have a setting in your email application - assuming that is how you're being notified - that has blocked access to facebook. Sometimes an upgrade by anti-virus does it too. I would assume the internet connection is good and your FB account is good and figure out each step in between.

Page continuosly says loading but never loads.

This could be one of several problems.
1) Their website might be undergoing maintenance (but they'd likely have a warning page), or there is unexpected downtime.
2) Sometimes a browser extension could be blocking access to something on the page. If you're using anything like Adblock or NoScript, try creating exceptions for the website you're trying to load (
3) Sometimes waiting a few minutes and refreshing the page can solve the problem. In a period of high traffic, web servers can often get bogged down and you might have to wait for the traffic to clear up before you can log in.
4) Make sure you're not having issues with other web pages. If you are, a quick reset of your modem (by unplugging it for 10 seconds and then waiting for all the lights to come back on) can solve this issue.

Saving a web page into a lexar jump drive.

To save a web page in Internet Explorer, go to that page and click File, then "Save As." In the box that pops up, use the My Computer link on the left to navigate to where your jump drive is, or click the down arrow next to the current folder at the top of the box. Once you've gotten to your jump drive and selected it, click the drop down box next to "Save as type" at the bottom of the box and choose "Webpage, complete." Then click Save.

To save a web page in Firefox, go to the page you want to save, and under the File menu, choose "Save Page As." When the dialog box comes up, click My Computer on the left, or click the arrow at the top next to the current folder, and navigate to your jump drive. "Web page, complete" should be the default selection for "Save as type" -- if it's not, select it from the drop down box. Then click Save.

Web pages typically save as many files within a folder, so if you accidentally delete or move any of those files, reloading the web page might not work.
