Most likely the display is failing. You will need to have it replaced. What color are the lines?

What if the problem on this issue (http://www.justanswer.com/questions/2kvcm-i-have-a-tshiba-satellit-p105-s6197-there-are-5-vertical-lines) was the video card? Do you have to replace the video card? Or...

Hi There,

You may have a lucky chance here. It's worth a look. Please connect your laptop to an external monitor and view the laptop's video output there. Sometimes you have to use the fn key with one of the F keys to transfer the signal when powered on and it varies which F key is used on different makes.

If the vertical lines do not appear on the external monitor then your video card is fine and it's the LCD and/or screen inverter causing the problem. If the lines duplicate on the external monitor it means your video card is definitely failing and will have to be replaced.

I'll cast my vote for your LCD because it's a much less expensive repair.

Best of Luck

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor?
This would ensure that it's the screen and not the video card..
If you do that and you receive a good picture then it could be something as simple as a loose video cable. Or it could also mean something like a bad video card or the expensive one, a bad screen.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

I know not everyone has this ability, but if you can, go to a friend's house and hook up an external monitor to your laptop. You may need to use the function keys to switch from LCD to external, but if the lines go away on the external, you have a bad LCD. If the line shows up still on the external, then your problem is either:

a) video driver (free, easy fix)
b) bad inverter (video 'outputter') ...approximately $10-50/varies + labor costs to replace
c) bad video card/motherboard ...usually between $200-$400 + labor to replace

Hope this helps - please be sure to rate my answer :)

if this line is there during boot up then it is a monitor problem usually. but if it is not then it is a problem with your windows files. you could try reinstalling your windows from the disks you were given with it? otherwise i will look into it. email me if you need more help. milliprowd21@yahoo.co.uk

My understanding is that you have 2 laptops with the same problem, if that is the case, you need to replace the lcd. When you have lines on lcd's, that is a sign of a bad lcd.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

There can be 3 possible reasons for this
1)Screen connector cable is loose. You can try to re-seat it and see if works.
2)display card problem. Connect your laptop to an external monitor and see if the problem persists. If it does not then
3)You will need to get a replacement LCD screen.
Hope this helps!

Gateway laptop vertical dotted lines across the screen

Sounds like a problem with the LCD assembly or cable. You may want to reseat the LCD cable at the LCD end. It could be a loose internal connector in the LCD assembly.
