I can't get my air conditioner to work on my 1983 Cadillac Deville. I just had freon added and it worked great when I left to shop. Now I can't get it to work. I see no signs of freon leak. I suspect it is a computer control problem. How do I find out if it is computer problem?

If the compressor locked up the chances there are metallic parts in the rest of the system are great. Flushing out the system is best left to professionals. If your system has not been converted from R 12 freon to R-134a freon, now's the time to do it. The oil in the R-12 system is not compatible with r-134a. If there is still freon in the system you cannot simply discharge it into the air.. The fine is huge. Have an AC shop do the work.

Under the right dash. It should be the second one from the left, on the bottom.

normal for cars parked in the hot 120F sun.
the A/C most cool every inch of the vents down.
check the freon charge.
ask a pro to check it, any ASE shop is just that.

there are 2 pressure switches in the system 1 stops the ac compressor if there is not enough gas in the system and the other stops the compressor if there is too much gas . Next if there is a problem in the TX valve ( blocked orifice) then the head pressure will be too high and the compressor will not work. Next if you have not had the system checked for leaks ( why did you put more gas in ) then it has probably already been pumped out through the hole.. While you consider it a saving to do your own in the long run it is more expensive not to use an accredited auto air conditioner shop.

If your low on freon then the A/C wont come on? for a 1996 you will need to get it serviced if you havent its normal to loose 10% freon a year,

If theres no air from the vents then its mostlikely a bad blower motor resistor module, this is very common on these.

mcdevito75 here, either your son in law didn"t put in enough freon or the compressor is not working, Have your local shop check it out.

There is a problem with the air condition,econ,means the ac is not coming on,check to make sure the freon has not leaked out.If the freon is fine,see if the clutch is engaging on the compressor,if it is not ,then check the sensors on the liquid line ,along the firewall,they can go bad and the compressor will shut down,check all this and get back to me.

Simply Disconnect the Negative Battery cable for 1 Minute and this Will RESET it for you , If there is STILL a Problem it WILL COME BACK on.

i had a similar problem with a buick park ave with individual climate control, after about an hour of troubleshooting and checking vaccum and electrical connections we ended up adding about 1-1.5 lbs. of freon and fixed the problem.hope this helps,it fixed our problem.
