Question about Lite On Laars Lite 2 Heaters: 250,000BTU MV Heater

1 Answer

I have the exact same problem

Heater was working fine one day, but would not fire the next. Problem is consistent - had the ignitor replaced last year, but the same problem persists.

I've had the problem twice. The company told me 500mv on the pilot generator was too low. 3 years ago I replaced the pilot generator and that seemed to fix it. This year same thing, 500mv on the pilot generator, I replaced again and this time didn't fix it and was still 500mv. After poking into everything, here's what I conclude:
- 500mv on the pilot generator is fine, maybe even less.
- you can check the valve and the amount of current the pilot generator provides by clipping a wire from the white to the black on the valve. If this forces the burner on your pilot gen is strong enough and the valve works. Be careful running it this way though, because it bypasses all the safety devices.
- Then check the safety switches and wires. I used an ohmmeter and started working my way from the valve through the fusible link, pressure switch, etc. With that method I found high resistance in a wire from the fusible link when I jiggled the wire. I bypassed just the link, and it's working fine. I've also gone through several pressure switches over the years and a control module as well.
- Everything fails in this heater. It's just a tough environment. the wires and connectors corrode. I live in the northeast, and now in the winter I take out the burner, control module, and thermostat/switch module and wrap a tarp over it. I guess next year I'll pull out the fusible link too, or maybe just solder the connections.

My oven a GE XL44 worked well last Thanksgiving but the next day the oven won't light up. I opened up the oven and could see the pilot light was on but the bar where the fire comes out has no fire in it....

you have a bad ignitor.even though it's glowing doesn't mean anything.it works with amps.3.2 amps opens the gas valve and then it ignites.

Just hooked up my gas dryer. worked great thru 5 loads and then quit heating, help!

What did you do move it from one place to another place? You may have shifted the lint around and cause a limit to get tripped.
Here is the manual and more

A gas dryer has a burner assembly consisting of an ignitor, 2 coils, and a flame sensor. The ignitor does 2 functions. It lights the fire and confirms the fire is on like a thermocouple. When it is heated it holds in the coil. If the glowbar is not lit then the coils will not open. The ignitor must be heated to allow that. So if the ignitor and flame sensor is fine and the dryer works when cool but stops heating when hot I would say you need to replace the solenoids.

Do you have a pre-start checklist?

Pre-start checklist?

I assume the heater ran fine last season. If so, assume it will run fine this season. Simply remove the top cover, check the combustion chamber area for signs of visitors such as mice, wasps, dirt dobbers, etc. Remove debris.

We always drain the old fuel & start fresh.

Replace the top cover and fire it up. If it runs fine then leave it alone. If it won't continue to run troubleshoot and find the problem.

Fan on, sparks 3 times, won't run

Shut off the gas to the heater and pull the ignitor out. Turn everything on and push the button in the door opening to get the heater to turn on. Look at the ignitor and see if there is spark across the probes when you hear the clicking. If not, replace the ignitor.

If there is, put the ignitor back in the heater and then look at the valve. The two wires that bring the 115V to the valve need to be pulled and then checked with a meter. Start up the heater again and look for the 115VAC when the ignitor starts sparking. If you see it, replace the valve. If not, replace the control board.

Oven igniter problem

Find the bake ignitor (you may need to remove bottom drawer or oven cavity floor to get to the ignitor). Turn on the bake. If the bake ignitor comes on (starts glowing after a few seconds) - check the amperage on the bake ignitor wires when it's on. Amperage should be 2.5-3A. If less than 2.5A - replace ignitor. If the ignitor does not come on - check the voltage on the ignitor, should be the line voltage 110-120v AC. If there is a line voltage on the ignitor and it's not coming on - replace.
Ignitor part numbers : WB2X9154, 4342528, SGR403, 5304401265;

Those ignitors are interchangeable, if you can splice the wires. If not comfortable splicing wires - replace it with the first one in the list, should be direct replacement.

Good luck!

Ruud heater will not light consistently

Your furnace is going into a lockout condition, cycling the power resets the circuit board and it starts over. I will need to know approximate age and model of your furnace, it sounds like you have need to clean the flame sensor rod. However i need to know what i am working with.

Ignitor last a day then goes bad again going on 4th try help .

You are getting improper voltage to the ignitor. Check all grounds both in the furnace as well as at every connection heading back to the circuit breaker panel. If you find none, you will need to replace the circuit board.

Dryer wont get hot in the am i try it it will wrk for one load then wont get hot same thing for 4 days now

I have a Whirlpool dryer with LP gas, 7 1/2 years old. It will fire up once or twice after started then the next time it is supposed to fire it will make a buzzing sound. No heat. It will not produce heat after this until it sits for awhile then the same thing, will fire once or twice then no more. I replaced the ignitor and this did not solve the problem although it did have a consistent firing for about 3 minutes immediately after I replaced the part. then it started buzzing again and would not fire anymore. The propane line doesn't appear to be the problem either since it will work initially. Also the gas water heater in the house works fine.
