Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Wireless freezes It connects up to my wireless router and will run fine for anything from 5-20mins before it stops sending and recieving data, the pages will then stop loading and i need to remove my usb key and plug it in again to work. Once it freezes(as mentioned above) it can not be disabled or turned off without plugin it out. It freezes almost immediately if i attempt to download any files. Could you help me please as if it not fixable i will have to return it asap for another product. Regards, David

Sorry i forgot to write the specifics , i have a belkin Wireless G+ USB Adapter, and i am running it off of a belkin router, the ones that Chorus/NTL give out with their BroadBand.

Oh ya i tried to bridge a connection but it said i cannot do it unless i have two LAN or High Speed Internet conections that are not being used by Internet Connect Sharing. I think i might just return the Adapter in exchange for a differnt one if it will cost me to get this fixed(even if it means the price of those support hotlines)

sometimes when i restart my computer a box comes up saying my dll has not been registered (in regards to the adapter) if that helps anyone identify my problem

I had the same problem with mine, It seemed to freeze but in essence it was really a software problem. You did not say what type or any specifics but I had to call the manufacturer and they helped me do a bridge. It needs to be bridged if there is more than one computer running on that particular modem. That took care of the problem instantly.
On the newer ones there is usually access to the software needed for the bridge on the manufacturers website. Try going there and see what they have.
I know I have not been very specific but I don't have all the specifics so I can't help much more than that.

I had a similar problem with my old belkin usb adapter, i simply downloaded the new Belkin Wireless Utility and it fixed the problem. If your usb isnt belkin try downloading the drivers or latest software of whatever manages your wireless usb adapter.

I cant send picture messages or retreive any?

try to send your messages from a broadband connection by following this information.
Here are the recommended steps to connect to a wireless base router 1. Check and remove power from both your router and the DSL ROUTER/CABLE ROUTER MODEM 2. Wait one complete minute until applying power to modem then wait one minute before applying power to wireless router. 3. Ensure you have green lights across both devices, specifically, the recieved and sent lights. These same lights will tend to blink rapidly when there is active data, at times this will still blink, and a DNS error will prevent you from connecting to the internet. If this is the case, call your ISP Internet service provider 4. Check your authentication Security key on your router first, then check all your wireless devices to ensure they are on the same network name, key, and channel with the same type of encryption as the router 5. Start one device at a time and check for connectivity, if your still experiencing a problem, check the settings on all your wireless adapters, device drivers, internet browser settings, firewalls and proceed. 6. still have problems, connect a rj45 cable from the router directly to your computer to at least see if your wireless settings are bad or if the router may be bad. 7. Contact your ISP to determine if your receiving singal 8. Avoid using a splitter or parital power backup for yours routers 9. Still having problems, change your wireless router only after your ISP changes their faulty modem 10.Attempt the same process when setting up your new wireless router and or modem

Laptop cannot aquire network address from wireless router

If you connect the computer to the router , it works.
That means the wired connection is OK.
Open the set up page of the router check the wireless settings of the router.
I think your network is secured and you are not typing the correct network key.
just open the router set up and check the wireless settings .
Make sure that the DHCP server on the router is enabled

I unplugged the cable connected to my desktop and the wireless function stopped working

You must always have a 'host' adaptor whether you want a LAN or a WAN. Go to your configuration utility or control panel via your Run command to set or view your options. Steve Medley

Actiontec GT704-WG wireless connection not working

Hi,
you say it suddenly stopped working, if you can connect to the router via ethernet cable then try to access the router's web utility page and make sure your router is in mixed or G-only. If you can't still connect to the router through wireless then try restarting the Wireless Zero Configuration from windows. This is how it's made: Go to control panel and double-click "administrative tools", then double-click "services". You will see a list, scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and click "stop", you'll see a progress bar. After that click "start", you'll see another progress bar. Now try connecting to your router via wireless connection. If you still can't connect then repair the connection by right-clicking the wireless icon at the bottom right corner. Keep repairing until you connect.
Hope this works!

Wireless configure laptop

You may be getting a little mixed up; the SSID is the dispayable name of the router over a network and the code you may be refering to is the WEP or passkey for security. First go into your routers settings and ensure that the DHCP is enabled to automatically give the laptop an IP address. Check your laptop wireless adapter/reciever is set in the properties to obtain IP adress automatically. Turn off any encryption you have running on the router and restart both router and laptop. When laptop boots it should again find all the wireless networks in you locality, then click on your network and click connect. If all works fine go into router again and then set up security key and note whether it is an 'open' or 'shared' network access as you may need to input this into your laptop if it is unable to reconnect after the restart. Also if your wifi signal is relatively low, it will not allow a connection to the internet as it is unable to send data at a low signal rate. If you originally ran the router via an RJ45 network cable, you may need to clear the dns from your laptop, click Start>Run, then type ipconfig /flushdns and restart your laptop to give it a new ip address and dns address.

Got connected, but no recieved data

Firstly don't encrypt your connection until it is up and running. Depending on your router, if you require it to allocate IP addresses automatically you have to make sure enable DHCP is ticked, otherwise see what the IP address of the router is e.g 192.168.2.1 and set your network TCP/IP properties to 192.168.2.2 or any last digit as long as it is not the same. This is the router IP address and not your ISP address. Lastly set up your encryption but there are two ways of sharing the connection, one is called a 'wep shared key'; the other 'wep open' so make sur your pc wireless network is sharing the same type of WEP. Hope this helps Please rate this solution.
