A Right Cartridge Incorrect message generally indicates a communication error between the All-In-One and the cartridge. This can be caused by a faulty cartridge; however, it may be due to a simple interruption in the communication between the cartridge and the All-In-One.
The procedures below will help you to identify the cause of the error and resolve the issue.
Rebricking the All-In-One and Resetting the NVRAM
NOTE: The embedded links in the table lead to specific troubleshooting documents.

Step Action 1 Power off the All-In-One and remove the power brick from the back of the unit. Wait 20 seconds. Then reinsert the brick and power the unit back on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved.
2 Reset the NVRAM of the All-In-One
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to Checking the Cartridges.
No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved.


Checking the Cartridges
NOTE: The embedded links in the table lead to specific troubleshooting documents.

Step Action 1 Open the top cover of the All-In-One. Remove both cartridges. Close the top cover. 2 Power off the All-In-One and remove the power supply brick from the back of the unit. 3 Reinsert the power supply brick into the back of the All-In-One and power the unit back on.
Does the error message reappear?
Yes: Skip to Contacting Lexmark. There is a hardware issue with your printer and you need to contact our technical support center.
No: Continue to step 4.
4 Clean the cartridge contacts (click here for instructions) and the AIO carrier contacts (click here for instructions). Continue to step 5.
5 Power the AIO on, reinsert the black/photo cartridge, and close the top cover. Power the All-In-One off and then back on.
Does the error message reappear?
Yes: Power the unit off and try step 5 with another black/photo cartridge. If the error persists with the new cartridge, proceed to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Continue to step 6.
6 Power the AIO on, reinsert the color cartridge, and close the top cover. Power the All-In-One off and then back on.

Does the error message reappear?
Yes: Power the unit off and try step 6 with another color cartridge. If the error persists with the new cartridge, proceed to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Try printing a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved

I have the same problem. I did the test it recommended for putting it on a damp cloth and then pulling it across, there IS ink in it. Brand new cartridge made in Mexico. What do I DO?

Lexmark advertises the cartridges supplied with this printer as cart. #28 and #29. They claim these are nonrefillable. The refillable cartridges are #28a,29a, 34 and 35, the last two being the high yield carts. Make sure you have one of these.

Power off the All-In-One (AIO) and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Wait 30 seconds, then reinsert the power supply and power the AIO on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to step 2.
No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved.
2 Power off the AIO and remove the power supply from the back of the unit. Open the top cover of the AIO. Using the carrier belt, gently move the cartridge carrier to the middle of the unit. 3 Remove both cartridges from the AIO. Close the top cover, reinsert the power supply, and power the All-In-One (AIO) on.
Did the error message return?
Yes: There is a hardware problem with the printer. Continue to Contacting Lexmark.
No: Continue to Step 4.

Did the error message return?
Yes: Continue to Cleaning the Cartridge Contacts, then repeat steps 6 and 7. If you have already tried cleaning the contacts, skip to Defective Cartridge Test.
No: Print a test page. If the test page prints, the error is resolved.

It could be just a slight communication problem between your cartridge and the printer. Try to remove the left cartridge from the printer > close the printer cover > unplug / re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it > when the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridge and then close the cover. If no error appears, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.
You may also try to insert your old cartridge or a different known working cartridge to determine if it's a faulty cartridge issue.

Message says right cartridge missing


Try to reseat the right cartridge into the printer. If that doesn't help, try to insert a different known working cartridge to determine if it's a faulty cartridge issue.

Printer said always that right cartridge incorrect. I have used 35color print cartridge and changed many times and do not work.


Try to remove the cartridges from your printer. Close the cover. Unplug and replug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reinsert the cartridges. Also, make sure you are using genuine Lexmark cartridges. A refilled/remanufactured cartridge by third-parties might not have the quality compared to genuine ones. If error continues, please contact Lexmark technical support for additional assistance.

My lexmark prints things out PINK - it says there is an alignment problem, but I cant fix it


Hi, try removing the cartridges from the printer. Clean the nozzles of the carts using a damp paper towel first, then finish it using dry paper towel to wipe it off clean. Unplug the power cord from the power outlet. Plug power after 10-15 seconds. Reinsert the cartridges. Make sure the cartridges are secured in the carrier. Hope this helps.

Haave installed new cartridge and geting message "right cartridge missing"


Make sure you didn't leave the protective tape on the right cartridge and also make sure it's fully seated in the carriage.

Refilled x5495 cartridge


hey jose022-it sounds like the ink on the header has dried up . Try pulling the cartridge back out and blotting it on a clean napkin .I f there isn't a small display of the three colors on the napkin , the cartridge end probably dried up before you refilled it.In this case you need to use the head cleaner kit and follow the instuctions that comes with it.
If there isn't aclear low of all three colors coming out the sensor will recognize it as only as the previous empty cartridge.

HOW TO REFILL LEXMARK X5495 PRINTER


When you try refilling your ink cartridges, you are taking chances that something may go wrong. I would search the web and purchase re-manufactured ink cartridges, which would be less expensive than the new ones from Lexmark.
